Hockey is over. Basketball is over. So why not turn your eyes to next fall?
The UW football team has its annual Cardinal vs. White scrimmage, where a high-powered offense will make do without its top running back and top receiver, while a relatively inexperienced defense will try to eliminate some of the question marks its facing going into the fall.
On offense, there should be plenty to watch, even with John Clay and Nick Toon out due to injury. Keep your eyes on backup quarterback Jon Budmayr, who is supposed to get snaps with both the first and second team offenses. Budmayr may be the quarterback of the future at UW, especially with Curt Phillips rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered in spring practice.
On defense, watch the new-look defensive line, which is going to try and replace the production of departed senior O’Brien Schofield. J.J. Watt will try and take over for Schofield as a pass-rushing threat, while the inside tandem of Ethan Hemer and Jordan Kohout is expected – by Watt, at least – to be a force to be reckoned with.
