Last year, the Wisconsin coaching staff had the majority of their top prospects visit the University against the best the Big Ten has to offer. Recruits flew in from around the country to see the Badgers take on Ohio State and Penn State under the lights of Camp Randall. Well, those two games didn’t exactly go as the coaches had planned, and a result the coaches altered the recruiting strategy.
This year Coach Bielema and his staff had the top prospects schedule visits in the first two weeks of the season. The prospects in attendance saw the Badgers win some close games, albeit against non-conference opponents.
There was an enormous amount of recruits in attendance, so here is a list of some of the top prospects that made it out to Madison
– Alex Smith, 4-star TE from OH.
– Will Hagerup, 4-star Punter from WI.
– Robby Havenstein, 3-star O-lineman from PA.
– Carl Davis, 3-star DT from MI.
– Taloa’i Ho Ching, 3-star LB from UT.
– Mennasseh Garner, 3-star TE from PA.
St. Thomas Aquinas, high school football’s top ranked program, also had a strong showing in Madison. Three prospects made the trip to see the campus and to visit with Dezmend Southward and Conor O’Neill, two former Aquinas players who are now Wisconsin Badgers. Here is a rundown of the St. Thomas Aquinas players who visited.
– James C. White, 3-star RB
– Vinnie Mauro, 3-star LB
– Jermaine Barton, 3-star OT
No immediate commitments came after these official visits, but the prospects mentioned all have UW very high on their list.
A commitment did come in however from a different Florida prospect. Jameson Wright, a defensive back from Fort Pierce, gave a verbal commitment to the Badger staff earlier this week. Wright is a 6-foot-2 safety who is being recruited at corner by UW, and he is the lone cornerback commitment in the 2010 class.
