2:30: There are five minutes to game time and the student section is only half filled. Today’s towel giveaway day so fans have been waving the towels above their heads already, this will probably continue during the game at key points. Badger fans go nuts for the 1-0 scoreboard intro.

2:34: Michigan State wins the toss and defers. Badgers will receive in the first half and defend the North endzone to start the game.

2:37: Gilreath takes the ball out from deep in the endzone and is dropped at the Badger 15.

2:40: Two PJ Hill runs for a total of 3 yards lead to a 3rd and 7, but Donovan hits Beckum for an 11 yard pickup and a first down.

2:41: Hill breaks free for a 20 yard run bringing the Badgers to midfield. Timeout Badgers, 13:11 to play in the first.

2:44: Two more Hill runs for short yardarge put Badgers in 3rd and 7 again, once again Donovan throws for the first, this time to Hill in the flat.

2:45: Donovan to Swan for a 25 yard gain down the left side, Badgers on the MSU 15.

2:47: Hill ducks and dodges his way to a first down at the MSU 5. First and goal Wisconsin.

2:48: Hill runs untouched up the middle for a 5 yard TD completing an 85 yard drive for the Badgers. Mehlhaff’s kick is good.

2:50: Deep kick by Melhaff, taken out to the MSU 17.

2:52: MSU converts on a 3rd and 1 with a 5 yard rush. Towels didn’t help much.

2:53: Spartan QB Brian Hoyer completes a 17 yard pass down the middle. MSU close to midfield.

2:54: Hoyer fires wide on 3rd and 5. Controversy brewing in section O. Some students are waving towels on third down, others holding up the traditional “O” sign. Will keep you informed on the situation.

2:56: Touchback on the punt, Badgers will start at the 20.

2:58: Last students fill in section J, but it looks like there are no more towels left. Should’ve shown up earlier.

3:00: Donovan tries to run the option on 3rd and 5 but is mauled by the MSU defense for no game. DeBauche punt to the MSU 37, no return.

3:01: Badgers first penalty of the game, an offsides, 1st and 5 MSU.

3:02: MSU RB Javon Ringer busts a 52 yard run to the Badger 2. Caulcrick comes in and runs for a 2 yard score. Swenson kick is good.

3:06: Badgers hit with a block in the back call on the kickoff return, will start on their own 13.

3:09: Donovan drops back to pass on 3rd and 10, gets sacked, fumbles the ball, Badgers recover at their own 2. DeBauche’s punt returned to the Wisconsin 45.

3:10: MSU hands off to sweeping WR Devin Thomas, runs all the way to the Badger 24.

3:11: MSU runs for 11 more yards to Badger 13. UW can’t stop the Spartan rushing attack.

3:13: Hoyer completes a 10 yard pass on 3rd and 9. First and goal on the 2.

3:14: Caulcrick runs for his second 2 yard score of the game. Swenson’s kick is good. Wisconsin’s defense drawing boos from the crowd.

Michigan State 14-7

3:16: For the third time Gilreath makes an ill-advised decision to take the ball out of the endzone, Badgers hit with another penalty, a hold, will start at their own 9 yard line.

3:18: Donovan picks up a first with a 9 yard run on second down. Donovan then completes a 14 yard pass to Beckum, Badgers showing some signs of life.

3:20: MSU puts eight in the box, but Hill still picks up 7 yards on first down. Badgers cross midfield to MSU 47.

3:21: Badgers false start penalty, thats the fourth flag of the quarter.

3:24: Delay of game to start the second quarter. That’s five penalties for Wisconsin. 2nd and 13.

3:25: Beckum makes a great catch down the right side for a 39 yard completion. First down at the 19.

3:26: Donovan has two receivers open in the end zone…and can’t find either on an incomplete pass.

3:27: Hill picks up a yard on 3rd and 1. First and goal from the MSU 9 for Wisconsin.

3:30: Two Hill runs lead to 3rd and goal from the 2, Badgers take a time out.

3:31: Donovan rolls out left and finds Beckum for the TD. Melhaff’s kick is good completing a 91 yard drive.

3:33: Wisconsin’s men’s hockey team is introduced, fans seem excited for the upcoming start of another sport that they can drink before.

3:35: Melhaff’s kick goes to the two, 16 yard return, MSU will start at their own 18.

3:37: Badger defensive lineman Jason Chapman goes down with an injury prompting the start of the wave…poor timing student section.

3:39: Hoyer to Davis for a 26 yard completion, MSU ball at the UW 40.

3:41: An MSU hold negates a big completion, 2nd and 19 Spartans.

3:42: Hoyer finds receiver, but comes up short of the first down, MSU brings out the punt unit at the UW 36…touchback.

3:45: Richard Jones, age 95, is shown on the scoreboard, he’s one of the oldest living UW letterwinners.

3:46: Lance Smith picks up 9 yards on first down…must’ve been inspired by Jones.

3:47: Nifty move by Smith to pick up the first, Badgers move to their own 33.

3:48: Tyler Donovan hits a streaking Kyle Jefferson for a 64 yard TD pass, fans erupt as the Badgers regain the lead. Melhaff’s kick is good.

Wisconsin 21-14.

3:49: Wisconsin has now scored on 100% of their drives that begin with showing 95 year old former athletes on the scoreboard. Just pointing that out.

3:52: Mehlhaff’s kick goes through the endzone, MSU ball at the 20.

3:52: Screen pass to Devin Thomas turns into an 80 yard score for Michigan State. Swenson’s kick is good.

3:55: Gilreath returns the kick to the 21, first down Wisconsin.

3:56: Donovan scrambles for a 14 yard first down. Badgers receiver Marcus Randel-El and Spartans CB Kris Rucker start fighting after the play resulting in offsetting penalties and the ejection of both players from the game.

4:01: Donovan gets creative with a shovel pass to Beckum for 8 yards, 2nd and 3 from the MSU 43…PJ Hill breaks a big 22 yard rush to the MSU 21.

4:02: Donovan aims for Jefferson in the endzone, but the ball goes through Jefferson’s hands and into Spartan cornerback TJ Williams’, MSU ball at the 2 after the pick.

4:03: On third and five at the 7, MSU rushes for 22 yards. First down at the MSU 29.

4:06: On third down, Badgers LB DeAndre Levy sacks the quarterback, forces a fumble, and jumps on it himself, Wisconsin ball at the MSU 24.

4:09: Mehlhaff comes out to attempt a 35 yard FG on 4th and 4 after the Badgers fail to pick up a first down after the turnover…and the kick is good.

4:11: MSU returns the kick to the 18, first down Spartans.

4:13: MSU goes shotgun, five wide, on 3rd and 2, complete a 3 yard pass for the first…pick up 15 yards on next play, first and 10 on their own 45.

4:14: Nick Hayden brings down Hoyer for an 8 yard loss on the sack. MSU timeout.

4:15: Quick note: Badgers CB Jack Ikegwuono left early on in the game and hasn’t been seen since.

4:17: Jon Casillas drops an interception on third down, MSU forced to punt from their 45…Gilreath takes a fair catch at the Badger 14 with :50 seconds left to play.

4:19: Hill picks up 13 yards bringing the Badgers to the 27…:45 seconds left.

4:20: Donovan to Beckum for 11 more…Badgers at the 38…:39 left.

4:21: Donovan forced to run to his left, loses a yard, Badgers call a timeout at their own 46 with :23 seconds to play in the half.

4:22: Donovan to Beckum for 22 yards…Badgers at the MSU 32…:17 seconds to go.

4:23: Donovan hits Jefferson over the middle but the freshman takes a very hard shot from MSU safety Nehemiah Warrick and drops the ball…the pass is ruled incomplete…Jefferson makes it off the field on his own power.

4:25: The play is under review…and oveturned…its a completion, Wisconsin ball at the 30.

4:26: Donovan spikes the ball with :10 seconds left…Melhaff comes out for a 47 yarder…and drills it as time expires!

4:49: Mehlhaff’s kick is a touchback.

4:51: Ringer breaks free for a 70 yard run…first down Michigan State at the Badger 10.

4:52: Jefferson will miss the rest of the game after the hit he took at the end of the first.

4:53: On third and goal, MSU is stopped at the 2 yard line…Michigan State appears to line up to go for it, but takes a delay of game penalty…Wisconsin declines…MSU will kick….Swenson’s kick from 19 yards is good.

4:57: Gilreath returns the kickoff 57 yards to the Michigan State 31.

5:01: PJ Hill takes it down to the MSU 1, first and goal Wisconsin.

5:02: Hill finishes the drive with a 1-yard TD run, Hill carried 6 times for all 31 Badger yards on the drive…Mehlhaff’s kick is good.

5:03: Jack Ikegwuono is out for the rest of the game with an “illness.”

5:05: Another touchback for Mehlhaff, MSU ball at the 20.

5:30: Gilreath returns the kick to the Badger 42, first down Wisconsin.

5:31: Donovan’s pass is intercepted…MSU ball at the Wisconsin 35.

5:34: MSU ball at the Wisconsin 18, second and three…incomplete.

5:35: Hoyer can’t hit his target on third down….Swenson comes out to attempt a 35 yarder…and its good…tie game.

5:39: Kickoff goes out of bounds, Michigan State will re-kick from 5 yards back…Gilreath returns to second kick to the 31.

5:42: Wisconsin faces a third and four at their own 37…pass complete to Swan, but theres a flag…holding against Wisconsin.

5:44: Donovan’s attempt is complete, but there’s another flag…roughing the passer…15 yard penalty…automatic first down…Badger ball on their own 43.

5:46: Donovan hits Beckum for a first down, Badger ball at the MSU 43.

5:47: Lance Smith runs for 28 yards to the MSU 15, first down UW.

5:48: Smith runs for 6 more and there’s another flag…personal foul on MSU…automatic first down….Badger ball at the MSU 4.

5:50: Smith takes it 4 yards to the 5-yard line..second down.

5:51: Hill gets a try, but doesn’t go anywhere…third and goal at the 4.

6:00: 3rd and 7 for MSU from the Badger 37…the white towls are out in full force (even section O)…and MSU calls a timeout with 4:23 to go.

6:02: MSU tries to run…but get’s stopped…Swenson comes out to try a 52 yarder..wide left…Badgers take over with 3:23 to play.
