Sophomore running back Lance Smith will not travel to or play in any of Wisconsin’s five road games this year, according to a Athletic Department release.
The suspension, which was announced Wednesday by both Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Dean of Students Lori Berquam, stems from some of Smith’s legal issues from this past summer when he was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend. Smith was initially suspended from the team but was reinstated on the first day of fall practice.
Smith, the team’s backup running back who ran for 60 yards in Wisconsin’s 42-21 win over Washington State Saturday, will miss road games against UNLV (this Saturday), Illinois (Oct. 6), Penn State (Oct. 13), Ohio State (Nov. 3) and Minnesota (Nov. 17). No word yet as to whether this suspension would impact Smith’s eligibility for a bowl game.
