Hitlist: A ‘far-out’ tribute to the decade of love

This week’s playlist explores both the light-hearted and psychedelic sides of the 1960s

This week’s playlist focuses on perhaps the most revolutionary decade in music history — the 1960s. It’s the first real decade of rock ‘n’ roll and musical experimentation born out of a cultural revolution that, at least here in America, lead to free love, rampant hallucinogen use and some amazing music.

Songs from the playlist from earlier in the decade feature innocent jukebox fun (“It’s My Party,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”), while others explore more trippy, psychedelic vibes (“Monday Monday”). The Rolling Stones anthem, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” closes out the playlist and contains the most beautiful choir section perhaps ever made. Free your mind!
