Spotify Friday Favorites: Guilty Pleasures

With midterms wrapping up, it’s time to chill out and enjoy life for a few weeks before finals. What better way to let the stress melt off than to bathe in the songs society tells us aren’t “sophisticated” enough or are “generally shitty”?

No. This week is our week. In the words of Ke$ha, “Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young!”

“See You Again” – Miley Cyrus

By Phebe Myers

I only have a little shame admitting that this song is my guilty pleasure, and it’s mostly because I’m not a Miley fan. However, this song is just too catchy to ignore. Guilty pleasures should always be songs that make us happy and want to sing and dance along to; this song fits into all of those categories. So, give it a whirl, dance around, we won’t tell.

“Die Young” – Ke$ha

By Kevin Cook

I hate to say it, but when it comes to guilty pleasures, “Die Young” by Ke$ha is mine. Every time it’s on, I sadly have to admit I turn it up and bust my groove thang.

“Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen

By McKenzie Kirkland

I still love this song.

“What Makes You Beautiful” – One Direction

By Colin Kellogg

I’ll admit it: I have a thing for Harry Styles and the rest of One Direction’s pop princes – though my admiration for some of them is technically frowned upon legally. One Direction’s songs transport me back to the ’90s, a wonderful decade when having a My Little Pony obsession was socially acceptable (I still get them for Christmas … sshhhhhh).  “What Makes You Beautiful” is the best of them all and a song I regularly blast while getting ready in the morning.

“Shots” – LMFAO feat. Lil Jon

By Kelsey Sorenson

For some people, this is a “get slizzard” anthem. However, I have listened to this song before taking every single one of my college finals, and I credit it for my solid GPA. “Shots” might not have very cerebral lyrics or promote good life choices, but it sure is catchy. Even people who don’t like it feel induced to shout along with it; what’s more guilty pleasure-esque than that? There’s something kind of charming, albeit alcoholically, about “Shots.” Whether you’re getting pumped up for a test or about to “get ready to get fucked up,” it’ll make you feel invincible.
