It is something we seem to do, count down to the weekend. Face it, you need something to look forward to when you are drowning in work, sleep deprived to the point of being delusional and dreaming of running out of class. However, this lovely place we fittingly call "Madtown" seems endless with possibilities, and sometimes there are too many good things to choose from. Yes, sometimes there is such a thing as too much. Stop staring at the fliers all over campus (well you still can, but don't search), stop surfing the Internet and stop waiting for that phone call. Just pay close attention as I open your eyes to some great weekend events around Madison — for that down time between cheering on the red and white and that dreaded trudge to College Library on Sunday.
Ani given Thursday
So for you angst-filled Ani Difranco lovers, you are in luck. She is bringing her guitar and soulful voice to the stage of the Orpheum Theatre tonight. The punk folksinger and special guest Jesse Harris are stopping in Madison as part of her current tour. The show gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35.
Have a hayday
I had never been on a hayride until last weekend — I know, pathetic. If you are one of the few like me, or a veteran who just wants a little childhood fun, hop in any moving vehicle, and get yourself to Schuster's Playtime Farm located at 1326 Hwy. 12-18 in Deerfield. For $8 you can go on a hay ride, pet the farm animals, get lost in a corn maze, which, as an added bonus is shaped like our dear Bucky, and stare out into the beautiful Wisconsin countryside.
Worldy Theater
Take in some culture and go see "Pierrot Le Fou," a film by one of the greatest directors to come out of France, Jean-Luc Godard. The movie starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina tells the story of a couple who ditch their Parisian lives in favor of an adventure to Southern France. The imported picture blending art, political and literature references is a part of Cinematheque and begins at 7:30 in 4070 Vilas Hall.
Scorsese Crazy
If you are more interested in satisfying your hunger for film, go see the latest film by Martin Scorsese, "The Departed." Critics are praising the remake of Hong Kong flick "Wu jian dao" (Internal Affairs), which features an all-star cast comprised of Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg and takes audiences on one action-packed ride.
A little adventure can only enhance your collegiate experience.
