If you’re like most people in America, you will be scrambling to find a TV with HBO to watch the much-anticipated return of HBO’s family hour and the beginning of the fourth season of “The Sopranos.” Referred to by some as the best television drama in the past 25 years, “The Sopranos” is becoming a cultural icon. The release of the fourth season has been long in the waiting, but finally fans will be able to sate themselves with new episodes after wearing out their DVDs of previous seasons. In keeping with Soprano-mania, we here at The Badger Herald have decided to compile an A-to-Z to prepare fans for the upcoming season.
A- Anthony Jr. Does he to go to military school and reform his ways or does A.J. follow in his father’s footsteps?
B- Boyfriends. Meadow had plenty last season–one dead, the other dumped her. What’s in store for America’s favorite college girl this season? If only Meadow’s new boyfriend was a certain ArtsEtc. writer
C- Cheating. We know Tony does, but what about Carmela? She’s had a little temptation in the past, but will she follow her desires in the new season?
D- Ducks. Will the ducks ever return to Tony’s pool, or have they flown south forever?
E- Edie Falco. Falco plays Carmela, Tony’s wife and loving mother of the Soprano children. In previous seasons, Carmela has had a tough time moralizing her husband’s business. A priest even encouraged her to leave him . . .
F- Fairuza Balk. This Hollywood bad-girl was supposed to play an FBI agent who befriends Adriana, made-man Christopher Maltisonti’s finance. Instead, they have replaced her with Lola Glaudini of “Groove.” Or was it the other way around?
G- Gandolfini. When speaking about the Sopranos, how can you not mention James Gandolfini, the man behind Tony Soprano?
H- History. It’s Tony’s favorite subject.
I- Italian food. With a new Sopranos cookbook on the shelves, who can resist making their own “Sopranos”-style dinner every Sunday for the show?
J- Jackie Jr. Anyone that has seen the last episode of season three knows what happened to this son of late crime boss Jackie Aprile. Needless to say, he won’t be returning for the fourth season.
K- Kin. Family, in every sense of the word, has always been the main focus of “The Sopranos” and will surely warrant more attention in the upcoming season.
L- Last season. Creator David Chase plans to quit after the fifth season, and the rest of the cast are rumored to have expressed interest leaving with him.
M- Marital problems. Chase announced that Tony and Carmela’s marriage would be the main focus of the fourth season. They are rumored to be headed for some rough times.
N- New characters. New characters allow the show to continue to be fresh, but producers have been tight-lipped about them thus far.
O- “Oops, I did it again!” A very intoxicated Meadow attempted to sing this Spears anthem at Jackie Jr.’s funeral during season three.
P- Paulie Walnuts. One of Tony’s chief henchmen, he is not content with the way Tony has been running things. Look for some fireworks between these two in season four.
Q- Questions. Season three left many unanswered questions. One example: What happened to that Russian Paulie and Christopher shot in the woods?
R- Removed. The shot of The World Trade Center has been removed from the opening credits after the Sept. 11 tragedy.
S- Sigler. Jamie Lynn, that is. She plays Tony’s spoiled daughter Meadow and is trying to have a singing career in real life. Stick to acting, Jamie–please.
T- Therapy. Tony has a shrink. His shrink, Dr. Melfi, has a shrink. The rest of the cast needs to see a shrink.
U- Uncle Junior. Tony’s uncle and the official boss of the Sopranos crime family will have to go to court to face his RICO trial in the upcoming season.
V- Violence. Sure, the show is bloody, but what do you expect? It’s about the mob.
W- Whacked. Whacking somebody is what the mafia is all about, but who’s next?
X- Xenophobia. That’s what we’ll have if any more Italians like Flurio Giunta, Tony’s Italian import, enter the States. That guy is scary.
Y- Year. It has been almost a year and a half since the last season aired. Sept. 15 can’t come soon enough.
Z- Zandt. Steven Van Zandt. He plays Silvio Dante, the proprietor of Bada-Bing! But will the boys have a new favorite club in Adrianna’s Crazy Horse?
