Tammy Ealom: a real ‘Dressy Bessy’

Dressy Bessy plays Schuba’s in Chicago May 27. Though lead singer Tammy Ealom’s vocals are noticeably out of shape, the complementing bubble garage of the remaining three in the band just works. Trust us, yo.

Badger Herald: Where does your name come from (sorry, obligatory in this setting)?

Tammy Ealom: You know, it’s like Lynard Skynard.

BH: Describe your relationship with the Elephant 6 collective.

TE: We are all good friends. John [Hill], our lead guitarist, also plays with The Apples in Stereo.

BH: Describe your sound. (For those who haven’t heard the album. Yeah, I know it’s my job, but the band’s perception of itself is always intriguing).

TE: Rock–Groove–Pop

BH: What bands have influenced you?

TE: I don’t know. I’m not skilled enough to rip anyone off.

BH: Can you draw anything anecdotal from recording of sound go round?

TE: Never attempt to record vocals in a house with six housemates. The screaming at them to ‘shut up’ can shred your voice.

BH: Who do you like to play with in the Denver scene?

TE: The Maybellines are fun. Breezy Porticos are another hoot.

BH: What fanzines do read?
TE: Haven’t received any lately. 🙁
