Madison’s homicide count climbed to six after 22-year-old Juan Bernal was stabbed to death late Wednesday outside of the Plaza Bar at 318 N. Henry St.
According to Madison Police Captain Mary Schauf, an altercation occurred between two groups of men outside of the tavern. The incident took place at 11:38 p.m.
Schauf said the men involved fled the scene and several bar patrons chased them down. Police detained two men, one they are calling a suspect. He is Justin R. Stout, 31, of Madison.
Stout is tentatively charged with intentional homicide, and detectives say it seems Bernal and Stout did not know one another.
Neither the victim nor the suspect is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin.
Police are still investigating those involved and the subject of the fight.
