MANITOWISH WATERS, Wis. (AP) — A small fire caused smoke damage on the set of the Johnny Depp movie “Public Enemies” being filmed at a historic Manitowish Waters resort.
Manitowish Waters fire officials say the electrical fire caused smoke damage to the second floor of the Little Bohemia Resort, where Universal Studios is shooting scenes for the 1930s-era gangster film. Depp plays bank robber John Dillinger.
Former Little Bohemia owner Emil Wanatka was at the resort when the fire started Tuesday evening. He says it was minor.
Wanatka says Universal and Depp were filming the famous shootout at the resort Tuesday on the 74th anniversary of the actual event. That’s when the FBI surrounded Little Bohemia and began firing, believing Dillinger was inside. Dillinger and his gang escaped.
