Gov. Jim Doyle and staff for legislative leaders continue to be optimistic that a fix to the state’s budget shortfall can be found soon.

Doyle said Monday that the talks are ongoing and he’s pleased that lawmakers have said progress is being made.

Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch and Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker planned a meeting Monday. They and representatives from Doyle’s office have been meeting regularly to talk about the $652 million shortfall.

Decker spokeswoman Carrie Lynch says everyone wants to solve the problem soon and they are looking at all options.

No one in the talks is commenting on the details of what is discussed.
