MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A University of Wisconsin System regent honored by his colleagues earlier this month for his lifelong commitment to education has died at age 68.
Milton McPike, a one-time professional football player, served as the principal of Madison East High School for 23 years before being appointed to the Board of Regents in 2004.
McPike resigned from the Board of Regents three weeks ago because of his battle with cancer. He passed away Saturday night.
UW Madison Chancellor John Wiley said in a statement that McPike was a guiding force for students, teaching them to embrace diversity, overcome bias, and build their lives through learning.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
