Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan thinks five or six teams in the Big Ten Conference deserve spots in the upcoming NCAA tournament. Ryan’s Badgers will certainly be one of them, holding a 24-4 overall record and 14-2 in the conference. But Ryan said Monday on a coaches conference call that he doesn’t think the conference is in a down year as some have suggested. “To us, every game is tough. It’s hard to win consistently,” Ryan said when asked if the Big Ten was having an off season. “You’re asking me if the league is this or that. The league’s hard.” No. 10 Wisconsin leads the league followed by Purdue (23-6, 14-2), Indiana (24-5, 13-3) and Michigan State (23-6, 11-5). After those four teams only two others have winning records: Minnesota (18-10, 8-8) and Ohio State (17-12, 8-8). Wisconsin will look for its sixth straight victory on Wednesday when it hosts Penn State (14-14, 6-10) for the final home game of the season. The Badgers wrap up the regular season with a game on the road Saturday against Northwestern (8-19, 1-15). The Big Ten tournament starts March 13 in Indianapolis, with the NCAA tournament field announced three days later. The tournament starts March 20.
