All the snow on the ground in Madison has to melt eventually.
And some of it will do just that this weekend when on Sunday, temperatures are expected to be in the low- to mid-40s. As a result, Dane County is preparing for flooding conditions this weekend.
The National Weather Service predicts about a 1/4-inch of rain on Sunday with additional water contributing due to melting snow. On Sunday night, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, icing over many area roadways.
Dane County announced Friday they are ready to respond. The county has about 80,000 sandbags ready to use in response to the flooding, and emergency management teams will monitor the situation.
Residents are being asked to clear storm drains that snow, ice or residue may be blocking right now. Low-lying areas are particularly prone to flooding, the county warns.
Additionally, the county believes unsafe conditions are likely on area lakes and roadways as well.
