MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle’s spokesman Matt Canter is leaving his job to work for an Oregon congressional candidate.
Canter’s last day will be Friday. He is leaving to work as the communications director for Jeff Merkley, speaker of the Oregon state Assembly and a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate. Merkley is seeking the Democratic nomination to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith this fall.
The 27-year-old Canter joined Doyle’s office in February 2006.
There was no immediate word on who would replace Canter.
Canter says he would like to work for Doyle again if he decides to seek a third term.
