Water leaks in Humanities causes class cancellations

Water leaks in Humanities causes class cancellations

Leaking from melted snow and ice due to unexpectedly warm temperatures caused some class cancellations Friday afternoon at the University of Wisconsin Humanities building.

Humanities 3650, a 489 seat lecture hall, saw the extent of the leaking. Crews responded to the problem today, according to Bill Elvey, associate vice chancellor for facilities, planning and management at UW.

Elvey said in an email to the Badger Herald the source of the water is due to melting ice and snow melting on the rooftop level, which had found its way into the building ductwork and insulation. He said this is typical when unusual weather occurs, as Humanities is an older building on campus.

He said room 3650 will be closed for repairs into next week.
