The University of Wisconsin men’s track and field team made a solid showing during this weekend’s Texas Relays, held in Austin, Texas.
UW sophomore Alonzo Moore finished second in the triple jump at 49 feet, nine inches while sophomore Rick Bellford was fourth at 49-3 1/2. Sophomore Joe Conway finished 12th in the long jump at 23-2 3/4.
In the throws, freshman Joe Thomas, who is also a member of the Wisconsin football team, placed 16th in the shot put with a throw of 52-9 1/2.
During competition Friday, UW senior Ashraf Fadel recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the decathlon.
The Oconomowoc, Wis. native had personal bests in two events on the second day of the competition to move up one spot and finished with 7,056 points.
Fadel finished third in the decathlon discus throw with a personal best of 141 feet, five inches. He was also third in the decathlon javelin at 178-9.
Fadel tied for second in the decathlon high jump, tying his personal best of 6-foot-6, and finished fifth in the decathlon shot put at 43-6 1/2.
Teammate Ryan Tremelling did not finish the decathlon after failing to record a height in the decathlon pole vault.
In other competition involving Badgers Friday, junior Darren Niedermeyer tied for 16th in the pole vault at 15-9.
The Badgers resume their outdoor schedule April 9-10 at the SeaRay Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
