Words: 200

The UW men’s tennis team (5-7, 0-2) failed to earn its first conference victory of the year, falling 5-2 to No. 72 Indiana (7-7, 1-1) in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday.

With wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, the Badgers took the doubles point, but Wisconsin managed just one singles victory on the day. Wisconsin’s top pair, No. 33 David Hippee and Alex Kasarov, downed the Hoosiers’ Ryan Recht and John Stone 8-2 in a dominant effort. A pair of sophomores, Ward Bortz and Jordan Raemisch, clinched the doubles point for UW with a solid 8-6 win over Indiana’s Neil Kenner and Ryan McCarthy.

In the singles matches, Indiana overpowered the Badgers with a barrage of straight sets victories. The Hoosiers’ top singles player, No. 73 Jakob Praibis, took down Kasarov 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, Indiana’s Kenner defeated Hippee 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot and Indiana’s David Bubenicek outplayed Ward Bortz 6-3, 6-1. Senior Scott Green gave the Badgers their only singles win of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over the Hoosiers’ Ryan Recht.

Wisconsin returns to the court Wednesday to take on Louisville (13-7) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
