MONTREAL (REUTERS) — Yanic Perreault scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 Game Six victory over the Boston Bruins Monday, putting the Habs into the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Montreal wins the best-of-seven opening round series 4-2 despite being outplayed for most of the night.
But Jose Theodore was brilliant in goal once again, giving the eighth-seeded Canadiens a huge upset over the No. 1 seeds.
Perreault scored the game-winning goal 39 seconds into the third period on a power play, with Saku Koivu, the team’s inspirational leader, picking up an assist.
Koivu, who battled back from cancer to rejoin the team for the playoffs, also assisted on Donald Audette’s first-period goal — another power-play marker.
Brian Rolston scored the lone goal for Boston at 7:57 of the opening period.
However, Theodore held the fort the rest of the night, his second consecutive outstanding performance.
