When looking for a good burger, students typically turn to the traditional Frances Street establishments of the Nitty Gritty and Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry. But, if you are in the mood for a good meal that actually comes with fries and without a mystery sauce, you need to walk the extra couple of blocks toward the Old Fashioned on the Capitol Square. The restaurant’s signature burger, the Old Fashioned House Burger, contains everything you could possibly want on a hamburger. It is piled high with the core food groups: fried onions, bacon, cheddar cheese and garlic sauce. Topping off the generous helping of delicious toppings is a soft-cooked egg, soaking the burger in yolk and making it the best in Madison. Not only does the Old Fashioned’s burger have every topping imaginable, it also comes with a choice of sides. If the grease from the actual burger is not enough, you can get an order of fries on the side or, if your conscience is getting in the way, you can order a side salad for a healthy addition to an already delicious meal.
