With the range of options State Street has to offer, students are often left in the dark about those fine establishments on the outskirts of campus. One such case is Nam's Noodle. Squeezed into a mini-mall next to Topper's Pizza on Regent Street, the inconspicuous location is a great find for any student looking for a pleasant sit-down experience away from the State Street masses.

Nam's menu offers a variety of Southeast Asian culinary choices, such as one of the gold standards of Vietnamese menus, pho noodles. While the broth is a bit on the light side, the variety of meat choices, along with a DIY option that allows the customer to choose his or her own mixture of ingredients, the customer is assured an excellent and filling dish.

Not only does the pho contain a plethora of mixtures, so does the rest of the menu. Nam's offers delightful specials such as mango chicken, a number of Southeast curry dishes and the puzzling addition of platters more often found in a takeout Chinese restaurant. If you do come here for a mere helping of kung pao chicken, you will be rewarded for your choice by heaping helpings prepared with far more expertise than any local takeout restaurant.

Despite the variety, Nam's best dish may be the simplest. Order the chicken fried rice and you'll receive a brief preface from the waitress: "How spicy would you like that?" Choosing mild would be a disservice to your taste buds, but even the medium option hits your tongue with a burst of flavor. The second this perfect combination of chicken, onion and Indonesian spice hits your tongue, you won't be able to stop until the plate is empty or you're filled.

The latter may be the case. Despite an average price around $7, the servings are more than generous, and you're almost guaranteed to have leftovers to cherish the next day. Nam's makes fantastic takeout, but don't feel the need to bring this Regent Street delight home — enjoy the lounge-style presentation and occasional karaoke entertainment after work to get the full presentation.
