This Week’s Winner: Winter.
Given that March was fast approaching and a couple warm weeks had thawed things out in Madison, we all thought winter was over — that’s what winter wanted us to think. That’s how winter is — it strikes when we least expect it.
Tuesday night was characterized by a snow globe-style dumping of inches upon inches of thick February snow that left Madison inundated by the fluffy stuff. Temperatures dropped, the gusts of cold air were biting, and woe to the unfortunate bikers battling their way up hills.
By Wednesday morning, plows were plowing, homeowners were shoveling and students were fighting their way to class through snow banks. It was actually kind of nice. Spring will come eventually, but for now, it’s still winter in Madison. So throw some snowballs, or something.
