Dear Fellow Badgers,
You and I have been privileged to attend one of the top 25 teaching and research universities in the world. We are the beneficiaries of the people of the state of Wisconsin and of the ongoing support of our federal government. The people of Wisconsin recognize the role the university plays in educating the workforce of the state, in fostering the arts, in making breakthrough discoveries that improve our health and well-being and in broadening the opportunities for the citizens of Wisconsin. The federal government has consistently recognized the quality of the university by granting more research dollars to UW-Madison than to almost any other university in the country.
It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the university remains a premier institution for generations to come. This is one of the reasons that we have chosen to be longtime investors in the university. We are asking that you join us in supporting Chancellor Biddy Martin’s Undergraduate Initiative to ensure the continuing pre-eminence of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Tashia and John Morgridge
University of Wisconsin - Madison ‘55

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the university remains a premier institution for generations to come”
If it is OUR collective responsibility, then why are only a fraction of students paying for it?
…simple case of divide and conquer
Props for caring 50 years later.
On, Wisconsin.
You ran this letter? Really? Can I write a letter in saying I dont approve paying 3500 more for tuition because I actually go here…unlike these people who dont have to pay ANYTHING?!?
11:10
The Morgridge family has given more to UW than perhaps anyone else. They certainly don’t have to pay anything but yet time after time they choose to generously donate because they care about the quality of the UW. Their take on the Initiative is certainly relevant enough to print. You have benefited greatly, and will continue to do so, from their generosity.
Ha ha ha… Did 11:10am just say that the Morgridges don’t pay anything to the university? Someone better clue him/her in, before s/he is embarrassed in public.
I appreciate that the Morgridges still care and am grateful for their contributions, but realistically, they obviously have money to spend. I don’t.
This really is an issue of who pays for your education: If your parents pay, you are one of those people who supports this. If you pay as a student, you are against it.
There are people who don’t fit this mold from both sides, but this really is an issue that is based on who is paying for your education. How’s this: I’ll support the Initiative if the Morgridges help pay the extra amount I will be charged.
