Don’t laugh at unconscionable incompetence of Alaska governor

“Here to play Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto in B flat minor is the world famous soloist, Sviatoslav Richter. During the performance, he will escape from a sack, three padlocks and a pair of handcuffs.” So begins a legendary Monty Python skit. What follows is Richter, played by Terry Jones, writhing about on the ground in a burlap bag as the horns and strings swing into action. The pianist, in-sack, miraculously pounds the keyboard, generating perfect note after perfect note, all the while struggling to remove what we can assume to be his padlocks and handcuffs.

This reminds me of Sarah Palin’s performance during the vice presidential debate. As Palin struggled to answer even the most basic questions with the most roundabout non-answers, it became easy to imagine Richter struggling in his burlap bag. And like the pianist, Palin never really dropped a beat. Utilizing ridiculously over the top yet perfectly timed “you betchas” and possibly the best pronunciation of “Ahmadinejad” I’ve heard, she miraculously hit the mark in looking confident and informed. Discerning people, liberal and conservative alike, all laughed at the absurdity of many of her answers just as they would laugh at the absurd Python skit. What is frightening is Monty Python is funny, and Sarah Palin is actually serious.

Her behavior over the past few weeks has revealed this to be no laughing matter. She blatantly misread the Constitution during the debates when asked about the powers of the vice president. She whiffed mightily at Katie Couric’s softball questions. In her mind, Putin’s head materializes over the Alaskan airspace. Despite her seemingly daily profession of love for Israel, she apparently does know where or what the Gaza Strip is. The other day, she declared women who do not support her are going to hell — this was apparently read off a Starbucks coffee mug (so she’s given up on the Bible?).

Ha ha ha haa… whimper. It won’t be so hilarious when she’s in the White House.

Sarah Palin is serious about becoming the v ice president of a 72-year-old with a questionable health history. There is a legitimate chance this disturbingly average hockey-mom Jane, the one who intelligent people are falling over laughing at, may become leader of the free world. This is not funny. Palin is not qualified to lead the country, and the more liberals laugh at her, the less time there is to constructively point this out. As a Washington Post columnist recently wrote, “Her phony, made-for-TV populism is a terrible distraction in a time of genuine crisis.” There may be a serious global financial disaster on our hands, and she cannot be given any responsibility to right it even if her only real duty is to pose as a charismatic figurehead.

While everyone in Madison laughed wholeheartedly as Palin’s SNL-worthy debate performance, the mainstream media was rushing to sell her debate performance as a victory over expectations. Of course, Obama’s lead in the polls has grown despite this, and perhaps the influence of the vice presidential candidate is not significant. But that’s not how the Republican election machine is treating the ticket. Her simpleton image has become the perfect mouthpiece for falsely labeling her opponent a friend of terrorists. The press gladly gives her the headlines — check out the latest Newsweek cover.

I implore everyone, do not poke fun at the furry bunny. Condescending Palin’s twisted sense of reality and incredibly poor command of the English language will not bring her down and may lift her up among average Americans who detest intellectual elitism more than bad grammar. The American independent electorate is inherently bipolar and simply ribbing her will do little to convince such voters the only difference between Sarah Palin and George W. Bush is lipstick.

Through her recent campaign rallies, she’s wandered into dangerous territory by all-but inciting a political lynch mob. This is not “country first,” this is not presidential, this is upsetting, and this is shameful and embarrassing.

Americans, this is no time for race-bating, name calling, and disgraceful politics. I think Sarah Palin has yet to receive that memo.

We’re sick of this shit.

The constant barrage over Palin’s supposed lack of intelligence is what makes her more popular with the right. The leftist “snobbish, holier than thou” attitudes against Palin simply because their candidate attended the “right” universities (Ivy League and Liberal)is laughable. You do not need an Ivy league education to run America as a matter of fact it is such supposedly “educated” persons who got us in the crap we find ourselves in today. It wasn’t long ago Wisconsinites elected a former Wrestler and Navy SEAL as their governor whom many said was uneducated and Wisconsin survived. As likely will America if Palin becomes Vice President. Most of you college students if you ACTUALLY were to study history would realize America made it through the Dan Quayle years ago with no problem as well. Other “uneducated” Presidents America seems to have lived through:

George Washington Andrew Jackson Abraham Lincoln Teddy Roosevelt Thomas Jefferson

and look 4 of those mentioned “uneducated presidents” are immortalized on Mount Rushmore. Maybe what America needs is true change and a “commoner” elected to the highest (or 2nd highest) office of the land as was originally invisioned by our founding fathers instead of the elitist, snobbish, highbrow lifetime politicians we have continued to elect over and over again expecting different results each time.

Now let’s see if the liberals that are in charge of the “Badger media” print this doubtful I know.

I live in bizarro world

NO, that is what you do to disarm power. You laugh at it.

user-pic

Bold - comparing Palin to Washington and Lincoln. Let’s compare resumes… I feel Palin doesn’t make the club regardless if she when to Friends College or Harvard.

user-pic

What “educated” people got us in this mess? It happened under the presidency of “Good Ol’ Boy” George W. Bush, and though it’s probably Cheney’s fault, it’s not as if he was using his education in the best interests of the people.

And I beg your pardon? Lincoln was a LAWYER, and while he was largely self-educated, he was nevertheless quite cerebral.

Our founding fathers never intended for an “Average Joe or Jane” to come to run our country— especially one with such an obvious disdain not only for how the country (and economy and foreign policy and everything else) WORKS, not to mention a complete lack of interest in finding out.

user-pic

Teddy Roosevelt George Washington Abraham Lincoln and especially Thomas Jefferson

were some of the most brilliant human beings of their time and Americans were fortunate to receive them in times of turmoil. Ms. Palin is certainly not the apple that falls furthest from the tree, on the contrary.

user-pic

Teddy Roosevelt graduated Harvard, Jefferson went to William and Mary and studied 15 hours a day, Lincoln was self taught but valued education and was a lawyer, and Washington was only tutored at Mount Vernon but he was strongly embarrassed to be less learned than his contemporaries.

There goes Mount Rushmore.

Jackson was a lawyer uneducated and a miserable, miserable president.

It’s not where you go to school that matters so much, it’s about valuing knowledge. How can there be so much disdain for higher education and researched opinion when college is the goal for so many people.

Elitism doesn’t mean anything. Hillary Clinton called economists elitists when they said the gas tax holiday would do nothing.

It’s the willful ignorance that makes Sarah Palin so miserable. She wants to dumb everything down to a gut level and she will call anyone who disagrees with her a “hater.” It’s indefensible.

7:56,

I understand your hatred for intelligence; pure jealousy. Your post is filled with various historical inaccuracies:

George Washington - College of William & Mary Andrew Jackson - No college Abe Lincoln - No college Teddy Roosevelt - Harvard (undergrad), Columbia (Law) Thomas Jefferson - College of William & Mary and FOUNDER of the University of Virgina, perhaps the most valiant fighter for higher education weve had as President

You see its stupid uneducated ppl that make statements that are blatantly incorrect but are protected from criticism because stupid people think intelligence is some sort of bad thing. How can intelligence limit your success as President? All these anti-“intelligent elites” can never answer that question. And just to hammer home the point, take a look at the education some of our best MODERN Presidents have had:

Bill Clinton: Georgetown/Oxford/Yale JFK: London School of Economics/Princeton/Harvard FDR: Harvard/Columbia

Somehow it seems people are turned off by Palin’s uneducated self. Education does not hurt ones chances of being a good leader, it helps. And I think it is important to point out Palin’s level of higher education. The American people should know if their potential President went to Hawaii Pacific College…and then North Idaho community college…and then University of Idaho…and then Matanuska-Sasitna community college…and then FINALLY going BACK to the University of Idaho to get her degree in 1987 at the age of 23.

And to further illustrate your incompetence when it comes to political history, your comparison between Dan Quayle and Palin is infantile. The only connection they have is that they both say stupid things in front of cameras every now and again. Besides that Quayle is WAY out of Palin’s league; he was a two-term member in the House and then a two- term member in the Senate. I think 12 years in the US congress, being re-elected twice, outweighs a year and a half of governship of a state with 650,000 people and two-terms being the mayor of a miniscule Alaska town.

You, my friendly poster at 7:56, are idiotic and unfortunately a lot of people are going to think like you in this election and vote against Obama because hes part of this “intelligent elite.” But lets it put it this way: just cause someone is smarter than you does not mean he shouldnt get your vote. We tried electing a President who was “one of us” and look whats been going on this country for 8 years. Let go of your ego; so what he’s smarter than you? Shouldnt our President be?

“It wasn’t long ago Wisconsinites elected a former Wrestler and Navy SEAL as their governor whom many said was uneducated and Wisconsin survived.”

You’re one state off.

“George Washington Andrew Jackson Abraham Lincoln Teddy Roosevelt Thomas Jefferson”

Washington and Jefferson, like most sons of wealthy Virginia planters, were educated by private teachers; Jefferson could speak French and read Greek and Latin. Jackson and Lincoln were self-taught frontier lawyers who read widely. And TR was a Harvard man.

But we all know facts have a liberal bias, right?

user-pic

7:56, that was Minnesota that elected Jesse Ventura. I should know, I lived there during his term, and he was a TERRIBLE governor. Just because you CAN run for office, doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

STOP GLORIFYING STUPIDITY

user-pic

7:56, please do not insult us by comparing george washington, abraham lincoln and sarah palin.

user-pic

it would be dangerous for the GOP to reschedule another VP the more unscripted air time Palin gets the more time people will have to realize that she couldn’t answer a question about any of the major issues if her life depended on it the prospect of her becoming the Commander in Chief is frightening

user-pic

Um…Im sorry to the guy who wrote that Wisconsin elected a former wrestler and Navy SEAL but that was our special needs brother to the west known as Minnesota

user-pic

I think someone is confusing “education” with intelligence.

McCain went to a premier university at the Naval Academy, but his holier-than-thou elite schooling means nothing. You said it, nothing.

user-pic

7:56am- “It wasn’t long ago Wisconsinites elected a former Wrestler and Navy SEAL as their governor whom many said was uneducated and Wisconsin survived.”

No, Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota.

Is the current state of affairs and President Bush’s status as an Ivy League graduate what motivated your comments regarding “elitist, snobbish, highbrow lifetime politicians”?

user-pic

@7:56

The issue is that George Bush didn’t EARN his way into Ivy League; Barack did.

Barack Obama is an incredibly intelligent individual (enjoyed the alliteration?). Anybody can get into Ivy League when your daddy (and grand-daddy) attended… Not many people can buy there way into being elected the first black president of the Law Review at Harvard Law.

Stick that in your blunt and smoke it. Yeah, I said blunt.

user-pic

You can replace Palin’s name with Obama in the sentences about not being qualified as president. He hasn’t done anything to be qualified either. And to me he talks just as stupidly about the issues. He’s getting a pass on his “speaking” intelligence because of his race. If he was white he wouldn’t have even gotten this far. Also, your comment about the English language does not resonate in a state where we sound funny to every one else in the country. Just because you have a mid-western accent it does not make you less intelligent. Bill Clinton had that stupid southern accent and he’s a Rhodes scholar. And to the well meaning moron above, Minnesota was the state stupid enough to elect a wrestler, not Wisconsin. But what the hell, in the eyes of the East and West coast, we are all the same aina eh?

user-pic

If someone cannot talk to a group of people without making a fool out of herself there is no way she is fit to run a country. I honestly think McCain picked Palin as his VP for two reasons. 1) to play off of all the people that really wanted Hillary to be the democratic nominee (which is failing) and 2) If he fails he has someone to blame. Any time McCain gets ahead Palin speaks and he’s no longer ahead. She is doing way more damage for his campaign than she is good.

user-pic

umm - did 7:56 just call us MN? Ventura governed the other side of the river. (I can see why the poster likes Palin though)

user-pic

They smeared Regean as a stupid idiot, too. That’s the Leftist MO. When you have nothing of substance to argue, just say the other person is dumb.

LMFAO at miserable angry Leftists. Will anyone explain to me why Leftists are such condescending, miserable, negative people?

Palin clearly won the debate with greasy Joe. If you doubt that, watch Biden’s body language during the debate. He knew he was getting thumped.

And there were no howls of outrage from the mainstream media for his gross lies and fantasies, nor for his leering at Palin. They declared him the winner for “his command of the issues.” What debate were they watching? They HAD to know those were falsehoods, or they’re as stupid as they made Palin out to be.

The fact is, Biden IS as stupid as they made Palin out to be. He simply makes it up as he goes. But instead of pillorying him properly, they hailed his performance.

What a sledgeload of manure!

user-pic

I agree with the comment above left at 7:56 am. However, I believe you were thinking of Minnesota’s former Governor Jesse Ventura. He was the former wrestler and Navy UDT, not SEAL. Either way, he was not the Governor of Wisconsin, but he did a wonderful job in MN all the same.

user-pic

Teddy Roosevelt went to Harvard.

user-pic

5:00 -

Did you READ the debate transcript? Palin gave non-answers to the questions, you dumbass conservative. You don’t like facts, do you?

user-pic

According to a recent pop up ad I saw, Sarah Palin’s IQ is 114. Ergo, I am smarter than Sarah Palin. Ergo, I use words like “ergo.” Ergo, in my mind, Sarah Palin is stupid.

Love, Another Madison Leftist

user-pic

Laugh instead at unconscionable incompetence of the junior senator from Illinois, who doesn’t know how many states there are or which ones are on the border of Illinois.

Or laugh at Biden, who runs for VP but doesn’t even have a notion of what the US Constitution says about the job.

PS. Biden’s been one of the Senate’s biggest drug warriors. So much for Obama smoking dope and snorting blow.

user-pic

Scanner Dan comes off are more intelligent than Sarah Palin.
