We all met Hillary Clinton at different times, in different places and at different stages in our lives, but our stories are remarkably similar. All of us were filled with nervous excitement at the prospect of meeting the first lady of Arkansas, the first lady of the United States or the senator from New York, and were mostly hoping not to embarrass ourselves. (Meeting your friend’s mom for the first time in the foyer of the White House was an overwhelming experience for a bunch of awkward 13-year-olds!) Despite our nerves and the unique settings in which our first meetings took place, Hillary put us at ease within minutes. We were greeted with hugs, exclamations of how much she had heard about us from Chelsea and invitations to stay for dinner, to spend the night, to join the Clintons for a movie or a game of cards. In those first moments of our relationship with Hillary, all of her public titles and tremendous accomplishments faded and in our eyes she became, first and foremost, Chelsea’s mom.
Growing up, Hillary was like a second mom to all of Chelsea’s friends (we are sure you know the type of mom we are talking about from your own adolescence). She was a constant presence at school events, sleepover parties and family gatherings. She was the hit of the annual Mother’s Day Skit in high school, imitating Chelsea in tights and ballet slippers with her nose buried in a book. She was a shoulder to cry on after a particularly bad high school break-up and taught us that sometimes, after a terrible day, a giant chocolate brownie is truly the best medicine. She encouraged us to work hard in school, converting the White House kitchen into our exam study room. She taught us how to make sweet potato soufflé when we decided to attempt our first Thanksgiving. She was a source of solace and love when we lost a parent.
We have been so very fortunate to get to know Hillary through our own personal experiences. We have seen who she is and what she stands for with our own eyes, and we are stronger and better for it. As teenagers, we saw her fight for health care for all Americans, before it was fashionable. We saw her travel the world and speak out on behalf of women and children. We saw her get up every day and work to make a difference in people’s lives, no matter the obstacles in her path or personal attacks sent in her direction. We saw her make history by becoming the first first lady elected to public office. We saw her fight to get New York back on its feet after the devastating attacks on Sept. 11. And we saw her raise a remarkable daughter under the most difficult of circumstances.
Growing up with Hillary in our lives taught us the value and necessity of public service and the power of government to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Because of what she has fought for and accomplished at home and around the world, we have grown up believing that we too could set bold goals and survive personal storms. The broken glass around her feet from the countless ceilings she has shattered has inspired us to believe that we can succeed at home and in the workplace. She has inspired us to believe that we will have the chance to cast our votes for the first woman president.
Over the past many months, we have had the great privilege of volunteering for Hillary’s campaign, and have witnessed the thousands of Americans waiting in rope lines and large crowds to thank her for making a meaningful difference in their lives. Soldiers and veterans thank her for providing them with the body armor and health care they deserve. Single mothers thank her for working to create the Children’s Health Insurance Plan. Young and old women alike thank her for going to Beijing to declare that women’s rights are human rights, and for tirelessly fighting on behalf of women and children. Students thank her for proposing the most comprehensive, innovative and achievable plan to make college affordable for all Americans.
We have no doubt that as president, Hillary will continue to make a dramatic difference in the lives of others. Helping people through inspiration and perspiration has been the story of her life. We have seen this firsthand and we have seen it up close. As young women who care deeply about our country and our collective future, we know that she is our brightest hope. And so with full hearts and great excitement, we urge you to join with us in supporting Hillary Clinton for president. She is the person and the president our country needs.
This letter was jointly written by Jennifer Lee, Ellen Cornelius, Elsa Collins, Martha Brantley and several other dear friends of Chelsea Clinton from high school, college and graduate school (friendsofchelsea@gmail.com).

Chelsea Clinton works for a $5 billion hedge fund in New York. Neither she nor her spoiled rich friends know what it means to not have health insurance. Its a little ironic for them to be pitching Hillary specially since their careers stand to benefit from her presidency. Chelsea should know. She got her well-paying hedge fund job because her boss Marc Lasry is friends with Bill Clinton. Check out this link at MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15549672/

Here we have the last bastion of Hillary’s base: white, female prep school students who are “dear friends” of Chelsea.

This is newsworthy?

talking about women’s right in China, actually trying to work out a universal health care are real incidents, not promises

Why do people’s comments need to be so cruel. That’s why Hillary’s supporters are so devoted. The negative comments by others will not change her support. Get a life- all of you bitter angry people.

Thoughtful and sincere. And as usual, Obama supporters’ only response is negative and cynical. I find it really ironic that in almost all the blogs I read, the supporters of the “healer and uniter,” are the most judgmental and often, nasty commentators, unable to believe anything positive about Hillary Clinton or to give her the respect that she has earned from 4 decades of recognized public service. It’s so easy to be critical from your computer, but how much of your own personal lives have you dedicated to making a difference in this country? If you can’t even be tolerant of a fellow Democrat, what makes you think that you can join with diametrically opposed idealogues and create consensus for change? This inflated fantasy of “transforming the world” is just that—an illusion. And Obama reflects this with his talk of “new politics” while he disseminates his own political attack lines and distortions on a daily basis. It’s sad.

I hope that intelligent University of Wisconsin students don’t fall for this kind of nonsense. Even from the title of it — acting like Chelsea is their buddy and saying “mom”, playing the woman card. Sickening. It’s funny how Hillary likes to take credit for the good things from her husband’s administration but not the policies that directly contradict her message (NAFTA, etc). All I can say that for the first woman president, Hillary would really set a terrible role model for women - putting up, even enabling, her husbands continuous affairs and riding the Clinton name all the way to the top. Hillary’s strengths suggest she would be a much better policymaker/legislator than the commander in chief of the United States!

I am so tired of the venom with which people talk about Senator Clinton and her supporters. This is a piece written by people who clearly know, love, and respect Senator Clinton. What in the world is wrong with that? Why is there a need to be so nasty? Also, how do you know who these women are or what they have been through in their lives?
IP hash: b1f722bf
That is a nice testimonial however, Clinton is still my second choice. I have no doubt that Hillary was nice to her daughter’s friends, but why wouldn’t she be? That could mean bad press. If she does get the nomination I’ll be behind her 1000% but, until then, I’m putting every bit of my support behind Obama. He’s the one that inspires me in the way JFK and RFK inspired my parents.
I’m just not that impressed with Clinton (more impressed than any GOP candidate though). With her, it’s polarizing politics as usual. Her negative ads in WI are very cheap and come off like she’s desperate. How many times have these two already debated? Poli-sci 101: the desperate, trailing candidate aways demands more debates.
I also have issues with a candidate who cannot admit that she was wrong (on her vote for the war in Iraq). Bush couldn’t come up with anything that he thought he did wrong and we certainly don’t need more of that.
Will Hillary cry at her Madison appearance tonight? Or will she save it for Texas & Ohio?

Just like she was being a great Mom, Hillary Clinton offers America real LEADERSHIP, real SUBSTANCE and certainly real SOLUTIONS. The kind Americans desparately need today for a better tomorrow. That means for EVERYONE.

Hillary clinton is a joke. She supports the repeals in civil liberties under bush and her only real talking point is health care which our government has no money to support. Our country has about a 9 trillion dollar deficit. Where do we get the money to support everyone. WHERE??????????
The point in hillary makes promises it is impossible to keep and besides won’t we look ridiculous voting for bush clinton bush…… clinton?

These are very rude comments. How can you judge nor argue with what people who really know her have to say about her? And why should you? I rather enjoy seeing things from a different perspective every now and again and this article accomplishes that. Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with Hillary, Nicole et. al.

Thank you to Hillary Clinton, and all the mothers who fought for the rights of their daughters. No wonder Chelsea Clinton is such a lovely young lady-she has a good mom.
IP hash: 675dfad0
This definitely gives us a “MOM” look at Hillary Clinton. This an important insight into who Hillary Clinton is. I really believe we can link the way Hillary cares about Chelsea’s friends to how she feels about people in general to how she feels about America. Her being brought up as a Methodist has taught her the importance of giving yourself to the service of others, and this has always been a sincere desire of Hillary’s- to care for people and mankind.
IP hash: 20510ad4
The first several comments to this article are really disappointing. I supported Hillary in my state’s caucuses, but I honestly can’t wait to vote for Barack or Hillary in the general election, and I hope any Democrat feels the same way. They’re both the best candidates we’ve seen in years, and either would probably be the best president of my lifetime.

The reality is our world can change for the better with the help of money. Unfortunately, as we have seen in the past, money has been used as a tool for destruction, narcissism and greed. It is much more difficult to use it for the good of the whole, as it requires research, experience and more importantly, wisdom. The wisdom that Hilary Clinton embodies is the reason I am voting for her over Barack Obama. Because her daughter is well-educated and might have more access to a decent job than other children should be no reason to write negative comments … it only shows that more work needs to done in creating opportunities for those who are not as fortunate. Hillary is the person to make that happen… to provide the angry negative bitter woman in our country a vision and plan for growth and hope. What a role model for woman everywhere.

what about an op-ed from the students for hillary chair? why are people that don’t even attend the university writing on behalf of hillary? this is lame and ridiculous and i really hope UW students write better than these girls and also don’t fall into the nonsense!

It’s nice to get insight into Hillary the real person and not the person the media dose such a disservice to.
My Daughters and I had the pleasure of attending a Solutions town hall in San Diego and even with all the people crowded around wanting to shake her hand or get a picture, She took the time to thank my girl for coming and taking an interest the process. I was impressed with her genuine warmth.

I find it such a sad testiment to our society that people will stand up and defend spewing vile comments about someone’s character when they don’t even know anything about that person other than what they are fed in the media. Did any of you negative commentators every read Clinton’s biography? Do you know what she has done in her lifetime to make this country a better place for everyone? I am not saying she hasn’t made mistakes, but Obama has, as well. Don’t discount all she has worked for because you don’t like her image - you must give credit where credit is due. And unless you can honestly say you yourself have studied both candidates, their work and what they stand for you have no basis to make any foundless vicious remarks that make no sense other than looking like you want to defame her.

Clinton 08.
Obama supporters again show they are hateful, divisive and mean spirited, as they continue to demonize and villify every one they can in their thirst for power.
This makes me want to vote for McCain if Obmma is the other choice.
Clinton for president.
IP hash: 0b3b5688
I think the majority of Clinton supporters like her for 2 reasons:
She is divisive, manipulative, and power-hungry, and clearly does not have the personal characteristics and integrity to be the commander in chief.
And I’m sure she is a good mom to Chelsea, who turned out pretty well (though with plenty of assistance from her parents’ network I’m sure). That doesn’t make her the best person to be president.
And since when does Hillary now have 4 decades of experience? She was a first lady in Arkansas and in the USA for most of the period, a lawyer on corporation boards, etc. Her only REAL EXPERIENCE is her years in the senate, where she has been getting lots of pork spending and wasting money on dumb projects in New York (naming buildings, memorials, etc).
The whole plan all along was to have her be a senator for a little while in NY and just use that as a stepping stone for the presidency, so she can bring in all the rest of the Clinton sleazebag cronies (Sandy Berger, Bill, etc) and have a return to the glorious days of the 1990’s corruption.

Yes - I’ve never seen this perspective of Hillary Clinton; in fact - I just assumed she was working in her law firm position and didn’t have the time for her daughter. Wow! This adds to my list of reasons I will be voting for Sen Clinton in OH. I will be sending this out to all my friends and family to, who are mostly Republican but are leaning toward Sen Clinton. This might do it. Thanks!

I have spent quality time in Madison and have fond memories of hanging out at Cafe Assisi. I have been following this campaign and have one thing to say to all the undecided’s. DO NOT LED THE MEDIA SHAPE your perception, I am a progressive independent voter. I am able to dissect the truth from the spin. OBAMA AND CLINTON WANT TO WIN. That is factual. Obama refuses to debate Clinton for the most obvious political calculating reason, he will lose Wisconsin with undecideds. It is not in his political favor. He has had only one debate with Hillary in Los Angeles. ONE. Any smart voter who cares about the issues in Wisconsin should realize that Sen Obama is a politician playing his own campaign tactics to win. Hillary Clinton has worked at unifying people just as hard as Obama. Look at her supporters they are young and old, Hispanic AND AFRICAN American and Asian and everything in between, just like Sen Obama. She has a vision of the future and a record of working with the other side of the aisle. She has done it. Even the Republican’s were surprised at her willingness to work with them and they co-sponsored legislation together. I saw a video of Sen Obama in a rally in Maryland use the most divisive tactics I have ever seen a candidate use to try to winover an undecided voter. He said you should support me because in the polls I don’t start with this many people who don’t like me. What is he saying to all the millions of people who love Hilllary for her leadership and the good hard work she has done for many years. Hillary Clinton is 14 years older then Obama and that is one of the reasons why many Madison voters can relate to him. As a man I can tell you women always have to work harder to prove themselves. I wish it weren’t the case but please take a look at the issues. Go to hillaryclinton.com; barackobama.com and make an educated decision.
Hillary Clinton will take on the special interests as she did with Universal Health care and voting against the oil companies and she will not be in the pockets of the nuclear industry. Hillary Clinton has always worked for the interest of the people. She was talking about Universal Health Care before it was popular and before Sen Obama was in the State Senate.
AND I AM AN INDEPENDENT VOTER.

I moved to Washington DC recently, having never been involved with politics. Like most Amreicans, I have felt frustrated and discouraged by this president and the mess he has gotten our country in, both at home and abroad. Over the last several months, I decided to get involved in the presidential campaign and, having looked at the record of our Democratic contenders and having met them—-a benefit of being here in the nation’s capital—-I couldn’t be prouder than to support and work for Hillary Clinton, the best candidate we have had for a long time for president. Not only is she smart, experienced and ready to lead, she is in the business of solutions vs. her opponent who is in the business of promises. Everyone knows Hillary has a big brain but what’s best about her is that she also has a big heart. I’ve met so many people who have told me moving stories about how she’s helped them when no one else would. I want a president who cares, not just one on a power trip with empty promises. It is time we get real about the future. While I will support whoever is the Democratic nominee, I am working hard to ensure that it is the one most qualified for the tremendous challenges the next president will face. In my book, that is Hillary Clinton.

I applaud and respect Ms. Clinton. She is by far the most intelligent, multi-talented, in-depth expert in various areas ranging from economy, foreign politics, domestic policy,…
It is nice to see her personal affectionate side as well. God, he is MUCH better than Obama :).

I love seeing articles that show us the depth of Hillary’s personal history - whether it is registering Hispanic-Americans to vote in Texas, speaking truth to power as a student at Wellesley, courageously raising women’s rights issues in China, or yes, as a mom who has successfully raised a wonderful daughter. My children can’t believe that no mom has ever been president before, and when you think about the “mom skill-set,” I can’t either. I feel it’s important to do all I can to help this mom get elected - I owe it not only to my children, but to my grandmothers, who fought for their right to vote and would be so excited to have the chance to vote for Hillary for president!
IP hash: 3ab3f332
Inspiration OBAMA has, but Coming from the older generation and seeing what our country has been lead into by the male gender, I’m excited to have the opportunity to vote for the first woman president, who is a mom. Unless you’ve been a mom (everyone has one) likely the value of this experience will not be as well appreciated. As a mom, however, I know I am more compassionate, stronger in my convictions, more willing to put forth unlimited effort to achieve goals, more resourceful, more willing to consider the other person’s opinion and reach for compromise I was before having this experience.
Knowing that Hillary was a good mother with Chelsea as the product of her efforts gives valuable insight into what she is about and how well she can lead the country.

I liked this piece very much, and appreciate the authors’ willingness to share their perspectives on Senator Clinton. I am amazed (as others are who have expressed similar reactions) at the venom of some of the Obama supporters. When I see articles about high school or college or law school classmates of Senator Obama, I read them with interest. When I see articles about or interviews with Michelle Obama, I read them with interest. Whether it’s Senator Clinton or Senator Obama who ends up as the Democratic nominee, I will support that candidate, and I welcome the opportunity to learn about them from various sources. It is really troubling that so many Obama supporters — who purport to embrace unity and diversity — take every opportunity to bash Senator Clinton and any who support her, and appear to delight in doing so.
GO HILLARY!

This article was a very heartwarming and touching! How lucky these young women are to have known Hillary in such a personal way! As an admirer of hers since 1992 and as a supporter and volunteer in her campaign since day 1, I have come to truly know Hillary and the more I see her, the more I hear her speak, it is to truly know her heart! And I truly love her!!!
Hillary is what this country needs especially at this time in our country when things are so bad and we have wars to end and domestic problems to solve! Hillary will work for us because she truly cares about people and solving problems! I am hoping she will break the ultimate glass ceiling and become our first woman president!!!
IP hash: c0a0ccf8
Well my brother and I really support Hillary with enthusiasm. Barack Obama with all his soaring rhetoric and now we find out he copies Deval Patrick’s speeches? Hillary is the original, not Obama.
And quite frankly, I’m ready to see our country at a place where “every single American” has healthcare. Hillary is the only one offering a plan that covers everybody.
I am 19 and can figure this stuff out. But I was never swayed by empty words and gold-gilded promises.
IP hash: 90fc0b2a
I for one like this take on Senator Clinton and it only further proves what I have suspected all along - that, unfortunately, the general public does not know the “real Hillary.” From what I can tell, every person who has truly known her personally, from all walks of life, have spoken quite highly of her. Let’s face it, some folks are just more comfortable in a setting that does not include cameras, reporters, and a slew of folks just waiting for you to mess up. Although I think Senator Clinton is certainly comfortable enough in the public to be a terrific president, I think there is much more than meets the eye - and that is what what will be brought to the table “behind closed doors” in order to accomplish what is necessary to mend this nation. Public speaking is wonderful and necessary without a doubt, but we also need a president who can maintain and/or be stronger one-on-one when the cameras are not rolling and there is no one chanting and supporting them. In my opinion, this is a well written article from a personal standpoint and, yes (to answer a previous question), it is news. If what Senator Clinton is wearing, or whether she has an emotional moment, or what her motives are for Chelsea’s involvement in the campaign, or what negative comment could be drudged up from someone/somewhere in her past makes the news, then most certainly the comments of a group of young ladies who have known her over a period of many years is newsworthy - it’s called impartial journalism folks.

I wouldn’t trust a woman president, especially with all the man-hating feminists running around lately. I wouldn’t trust a black president either.
I think I’ll stick with McCain or Huckabee, whichever wins the GOP nomination.

I too have noticed how harsh the Obama people are towards Hillary. If this man is supposed to lead you in positive ways—it’s not happening. So you resent the fact that some of Chelsea’s friends have drawn together to support Hillary. To the person who made the comment about Bill’s affairs, maybe you should be looking more closely at Michelle Obama’s comments that “she couldn’t run her own household, how can she run the country.” That sort of thinking will take us back 50 years. She has the experience, she has been working for this country for many years, and she has the solutions. I would rather base my vote on a strong resume’, than a wing and a prayer. Most of you just echo what the right-wing media has thrown at her for years, and she has come through with flying colors. Hillay, you are the strongest candidate, and you have my support and vote.

I can’t believe the Herald even printed this- it’s a blatant plug for Hillary. There is no actual information in this whole article, just stories. It’s really great that Hillary “was the hit of the annual Mother’s Day skit” and that “she taught (them) how to make sweet potato souffle” but that doesn’t mean she would make a good president. Come on Herald- give me something with some real information.
IP hash: 5a7fd008
I was very surprised at the number of responses to this column that were so horribly negative. Can’t Obama backers support their candidate without bringing down Clinton? It’s almost embarrassing that the followers of a person who purports to unite the country would act in this manner. Shame on you.
This column was written by people who have apparently known Clinton for many years, and who continue to love and respect her. How many of us can say that about our friends’ parents?
IP hash: e74bfb9b
The first anonymous comment is so stupid that it hurts. Even if they are rich and dont need health insurance they understand that Hillary,s plan bringe health insurance to everyone while Obama’s does not. Obama’s plan will also be more expensive because (insurance mathematics) it leaves people out. Now who will stay out? Young people who are healthy. Only a mix of healthy and sick contribuents into a health system makes it affordable. You have no clue and should not talk. Obama is not a needy or poor guy either. He has not even seen a public school from inside.

Hillary Doesn’t Keep Her Promises !!
In her 2000 Senate campaign, Hillary Clinton promised to make the improvement of the upstate NY economy her first priority. Six years later, another Democrat, Eliot Spitzer, compared upstate NY to Appalachia!! Of course, Hillary never takes responsibility for her failings so she’ll try to blame the Bush administration but don’t you believe it. As a resident of upstate NY, I can assure you that it doesn’t matter what Hillary promises in a campaign because Hillary doesn’t keep her promises.

“everyone talks about how inspirational JFK was and I just don’t get it. Have you all forgotten Bay of Pigs? Have you forgotten he was the first president to get us into Vietnam? Cuban Missile Crisis?”
And Johnson, another Democrat, threw us headlong into Vietnam by cranking up the draft. Then Carter, who was nice enough to do the right thing and give draft dodgers amnesty, only to start up draft registration again. Backstabber!
And let’s not forget Bill Clinton himself. In the Spring of ‘98 he sent a half-million troops to the Persian Gulf to attack Iraq again, only because Saddam wouldn’t let UN weapons inspectors in. Eventually Saddam gave in and another war was averted. Then on Dec. 16-19 later that year, Clinton unleashed 4 days of intense bombing on Baghdad.
Yeah, those Democrats really are the peace-loving kind. Oh yeah, and what about Obama’s pledge to invade Pakistan to get Osama bin Laden? Isn’t it kinda late for that? They almost had him at Tora Bora, but they let him get away. If we try to pursue him in Pakistan, we’ll be up against well-armed militants there that are sympathetic to him. they might even help him escape to yet another country. What are we gonna do, hop around the globe year after year just to get one guy?!
Yes, I’m pretty fed up with the way Bush has handled things, but how much better could a Democrat do? In my opinion, I think both liberals and conservatives suck. You want my vote? Not this time. It isn’t worth the trip to the polling place to vote for someone who will only let us all down. None of the candidates this time really impress me at all.

Obama supporters are truly stunning in their venom and viciousness. This is the new breed of candidate and campaign with an inspirational message of unity? But I suppose that this is to be expected when a campaign is built on little more than a recycled advertising campaign with an increasingly tired and, now, as we learn, series of repeated and repurposed campaign lines and slogans. Supposedly the “new” message of “hope” and “change” is nothing more than a retread of the Duval Patrick campaign and every other race that Axelrod has had his hands on. Much like duped customers I think the Obama supporters should demand their money back and tell Axelrod (the real presidential candidate behind the empty suit) to keep the change.

Hillary’s a wonderful mother, and I’m sure she treated her daughter’s friends well. She’s an able Senator and a knowledgeable politician. Credit where credit is due. However, she seems to be running a campaign borne of jealousy for the moment. Her biggest messages to Wisconsin voters thus far: 1. Barack won’t debate me. 2. Words are cheap. 3. Barack’s health care plan will leave 15 million uncovered.
Point 3 is a legitimate issue that I believe both candidates need to debate on. I look forward to next week’s debate on this issue. As a previous commentor posted, we’ll have a tough time footing the bill for universal care, but some things are worth the challenges to achieve them.
Points 1 and 2 are petty, and seem exemplary of the way the Clinton campaign is run when behind. Words do matter, Sen. Clinton, which is why you are clamoring for a debate. So that we can hear you speak. However, it may be wise to begin clamoring for a debate after you have graced the state with your presence. Considering ours was the next primary, where have you been for the last week?

What a shame! How people can be so critical and not accept the accomplishments of Senator Clinton. As an educator and counselor you would probably label the comments as sour grapes. The Democrats have two choses and however you feel about the two candidates there is only one who has been tested and ready to be president and that is Senator Clinton. My only question to you who are supporting Senator Obama: What do you think the Republicans are going to do with his inspirational speeches which by the way are wonderful but lack substance. What do you think the Republicans are going to do about his lack of experience How about the 130 times he did not vote, I wonder why. When asked about 5 of his voes he said he pushed the wrong button. Anyone who quotes MSNBC in their comments sure doesn’t get it They are so biased it is ridiculous They try every chance they get to give Senator Clinton personal negative attacks. I love the line she is to polarized who says the biased media? It is amazing some of the negative comments sound like they were written by children they are so petty. But I guess that is because Senator Clinton is such a qualified candidate and they cannot comment on anything else. Spend some time reading the facts about Senator Clinton instead of the inaccurate reporting by those in the media who are so biased. Senator Obama is really not another JFK look at their resumes’ For one thing JFK had 15 years in Congress. If you want a Democrat in the White House you better decide who will be able to beat a Republican and if you believe Senator Obama can win over the Republicans you are sadly mistaken.

When Mr. C was in the WH I was so totally amazed w/Mrs. C she is a great role model for women of today. You have my vote - I voted for Mr. C and think he did a super job as President. We need more of the same. Mrs. C is smart, honest, and a women w/great fortitude. I am so very proud to be part of this history making election. I truly hope that we win the election. If not America will be is even sadder condition than it is now - we need change, we need reform, we need to bring jobs to the working middle class of the great nation, so the very people that are citizens can continue to live and work and support our nation in the manor our forefathers meant it to be. We don’t need great welfare systems and illegal ailens taxing our systems. We need tax paying wroking citizens to make us a strong nation. Ms. HIllary go for the WIN.

What a nice tribute from Chelsea’s friends! It is great to see a mother/daughter being supportive of each other. Goes to show what an amazing woman Senator Clinton is! America would be truly blessed to have her as our next President. VOTE FOR HILLARY!
IP hash: 80aa8953
Oh my, such toxicity from some folks - if Chelsea were less successful, the mysogynists of the world would be screaming, “Look! Hillary wasn’t even a good mother! She couldn’t raise her own child properly, so how can she run a country?” First people slam her for being impersonal, then they belittle her humanity, her family, and her personal accomplishments.
Hillary’s experience and positions on the issues matter to me a great deal, but it also matters to me that she raised a lovely, gracious and intelligent daughter. It’s evidence of what is in her heart, and it’s all good. Go, Hillary!
As a white woman over 40, it galls me to see people so openly denigrate my particular demographic, as if our support for Hillary is somehow automatically less valid than “normal voters,” or less valid than, say, a black man’s support for Obama. Nowhere do I see Obama’s base demographic being dismissed wholesale, their views rejected out of hand simply because of their race or gender.

The reason this column is bringing out so many “nasty” comments is that it’s a shameless emotional plea to vote for Hillary Clinton. Being a great mother is a terrific quality, but it hardly qualifies one to lead a superpower on the brink of a recession.
What will ultimately impact the country far more is what sort of cabinet our future leader will put together. While one would hope that Clinton’s experience would teach her not to follow her husband’s footsteps in appointing such cronies as “slam-dunk” George Tenet, they way she’s run her campaign so far seems to suggest otherwise.

What on earth were your parents doing that you should say THIS of Hillary:
“She was a shoulder to cry on after a particularly bad high school break-up and taught us that sometimes, after a terrible day, a giant chocolate brownie is truly the best medicine. She encouraged us to work hard in school, converting the White House kitchen into our exam study room. She taught us how to make sweet potato soufflé when we decided to attempt our first Thanksgiving. She was a source of solace and love when we lost a parent.”
Good Lord, did Hillary really do all this for you? Haven’t you got family? Is there truly no one else whose shoulder was better for crying on, who knew about the healing properties of brownies, whose encouragement spurred you to study hard, who taught you how to cook for Thanksgiving? Do you honestly mean to tell me that your own mothers and fathers and aunts and big sisters were only second-best at all this? The only thing that explains this daughterly gush towards a classmate’s mom is the final line, “we lost a parent.”

In response to the negative comments about the Clinton family due to their successful American story sounds like jealousy. Although I didn’t have Chelsea’s privileges growing up, my husband and I worked hard to create the best environment for our family. Neither Hillary or Bill grew up in anything near the privileged environment they offered their daughter. Hillary and Bill are no longer middle class, working their way to their positions to help others: fulfilling the American dream. Why should they be condemned? They are not a new American story.
Another American story: my mother was an immigrant whose parents had little or no education. My grandfather was a barber, but he provided ethics and encouraged education, that transferred to my generation, the first to attend University in our family tree. My husband and I worked hard to provide our children with a great education. We encouraged three children to do their best in school. Their hard work was their entree to great universities and wonderful careers. Now its their turn to do for their families. Hopefully instilling good morality and work ethic; and then giving back to their community.
What’s most commendable about the Clintons is they have been successful and have given back more than 100% of themselves. Whether born rich or earned rich, giving back to our society should be commended. The Clintons and their daughter have spent of lifetime of affecting change to help others. What greater standard is their for an American? It’s what the world calls the American Dream.
In that dream no one mentions American’s good will. Crisis in America or a small country destroyed by a Tsunami, our people from all classes upper, middle or poor immediately immobilize and give support and aid, even if we’re in economic difficulties.
Should Bill Gates be condemned for his successes, ignoring all the philanthropic work he has contributed to around the world. The American way of life is not always successful but I wouldn’t take away the American dream to lift people out of their problems, work hard, and you will be paid for your efforts.
There is an upside and a downside to our politicians. Philanthropic work doesn’t sell newspapers or creates headlines generated 24/7 on the internet news. What kind of schools did Obama and his wife attend. Certainly they are among the most privileged in our society, but he does take advantage of his education and hard work. His children too benefit.
to answer to the question is this newsworthy:not all rich mothers devote their lifetime of work for others. Is Hillary powerful? Yes. Did she send her daughter away to boarding school. or did she try her best to be a part of her daughters growing up, not an easy thing to do as a working mother. The friends of Chelsea Clinton have a right to campaign for a woman whose worked hard to become a respected Senator of the United States. How does a woman who gets a job through marriage represent feminism. Yeah, she did some volunteer work when Bill was governor and then president, served on some corporate boards, but her real experience did not come until she was elected to the U.S. Senate.
I can’t wait for a woman to run for president who can run on her own name—not her husband’s. Interestingly Hillary announced right before the campaign started that she would be dropping “Rodham” from her name.

Horsesh!t. I went to High School with Chelsea. I know Ellen. Hillary came to a few events, but the one time we were invited to the White House to meet her, we sat in a room and waited for an hour, hungry as hell, and she never showed up. Then some aid came in and said she was too busy so we went somewhere else. Bill took the time to meet us all. I’m voting for Obama, not Chelsea’s mom, an ex-President’s wife, or anyone else for that matter.

Many are under the impression that Obama and Clinton have debated numerous times. This is not true. How many times have they debated ONE-on-ONE? And what does this number say about Obama(since he is the one who is refusing debates)? I’ve heard direct quotes from Obama and his camp, stating, “I don’t think it’s what the American people want.” “There’s no time.” At least in my lifetime, I cannot remember a candidate NOT wanting to debate. Debates are opportunities. Debates are what set candidates apart and give people the chance to really get to know where each candidate stands. People should be asking the right questions instead of accepting what they are being fed. (Has America really gotten so bad that we don’t care what people have to say anymore? Is someone’s image enough to decide whether they will do well for us and how they intend to do that?) Each human being is capable of thinking for themselves, learning, finding out facts, finding out truth. Unfortunately, many are not exercising these characteristics.

Why does a letter written by women who are not even UW students deserve this kind of attention by a campus paper? Have any of these women even been to Wisconsin? And what’s with all these other posts by people who are clearly campaign operatives and also not students???
IP hash: bf92d3aa
What a farce.
To think that voters will make their choice based on how someone treated their daughter’s friends… wow.
The article had almost no substance. And, I think, most importantly, it shows how desperate the Clinton campaign has become. Asking the daughter’s friends to write to college papers. Incredible. If they could write, why doesn’t Bill or Hillary send a stock letter themselves?
In the end, I’m glad that Biese and her other SFH friends are commenting on here in the voice of middle-aged women swooning over motherly instincts, while the SFO people sound like cocaine-driven gangbangers.
And Florida voter, no, your voice doesn’t count, since your state party leadership was needlessly greedy (really? florida needed MORE attention than the insane amount it already gets??), and you are paying for it. Accept it.

How soon we forget that this country was in great shape under the Clinton administration. And as for Hillary’s qualifications she has what it takes. A reflection would be beneficial if one compares oneself to any public servant’s achievement on what one has done to one’s own life, starting from perhaps even little things like, anything I have done to have made my life a little better, or myself a bit happier. Please be civil and fair.
In this case, I believe even Obama and Michelle would agree Hillary is a very good mother.

Hillary cared more about her career rather than being a good a mother..As she has admitted it herself, when she was asked why she end up having only one child. By the way, she was one of the top 100 Corporate lawyers the year her husband won the presidency. I am not trying to knock her off, but she was a successful corporate lawyer, rather than an activist. The fact she is trying to downplay now a days.

I never believe the image of Hillary that the media has been projecting over the years. I always knew that she is a lovely person. It’s a cruel thing to call her mean, cold, and calculated. It’s a lie.
And beside she is strong and intelligent. She has the best comprehensive policy for the new direction of America. That’s why I’m for Hillary.
IP hash: 109e17fc
Obama plagiarizes speeches as well as entire policies. There’s an article in the Chicago Sun-Times describing how he’s copied whole sections of speeches from others. I’ve been an Obama supporter, but I’m beginning to wonder if this guy really is too good to be true.

Obama supporters might do well to remember that in November, should their candidate win the primary, they will need the clinton supporters to join them in order to win againt the republican candidate.I would think they would tone down the hate filled messages in the blogs and try to at least be respectful of the voters choice and not further push those they will need into a possible vote for the republican candidate in the fall.

OMG the comments are so negative and hurtful and even our tears are crying because of all the hurtful things being said about a mom. Big friggin whoop, it’s politics, and believe me, Clinton is worthy of a lot of criticism and scrutiny. If you can’t handle criticism of your candidate, it’s not support, it’s cognitive dissonance. Maybe she’s still better than Obama or McCain, but she still sucks.
Which shade of poo would you want smeared on your wall? Maybe one of the three would look better or smell slightly better, but at the end of the day it’s still poo.

This was a nice article that gave insight to Hillary as a mom. Thats the kind of mom I would like to be.
I have to agree with a previous writer that spoke of the anger of Obama followers. I have never met a more angry group and see this behavior as a conflict to Obama’s promise of being someone who can bring people together. It makes me question his sincerity.
I support Hillary because I believe she can bring about change so many talk about. She has exhibited this with years of public service, sponsoring the State Childrens Health Insurance Program(SCHIP), Insurance for National Guard, winning the hearts of her New York constituents and much more.
I would like to vote for Obama someday. But right now the fierce urgency of now is saying “VOTE HILLARY CLINTON 2008”
IP hash: 946704cd
“Obama supporters again show they are hateful, divisive and mean spirited, as they continue to demonize and villify every one they can in their thirst for power.
This makes me want to vote for McCain if Obama is the other choice.”
I feel this way also, and I have always been a loyal Democrat. But these kinds of hateful remarks, and regurgitated media bias is pushing me closer to not even want to vote, and that breaks my heart. Unification of America?? Sounds like hollow promises to me.
IP hash: 283ad1aa
I can’t speak for Obama supporters, because I was a John Edwards man, and have joined with my fellow progressives to support Obama because he is the best choice available. I too wonder why so many on both ends don’t like Sen.Clinton, and it really comes down to her character as a woman. In a recent book written by 30 different women writers, mostly all of the crtiques of her had to do with the way she dressed or dieted, not her actually policy issues. Yet, who’s fault it that??? Clinton herself. She attempts to be more womanly when it’s to her benefit, but was she really or is really a mom like figure at all??? The reason Obama supporters attack her is because she seems to pander to groups. Obama has been more of overall candidate and not an one issue or group one.Hilary’s many gaffes with black voters left a bad taste and then they began voting for Obama, just like when women came to her defense AFTER the tears in NH, not before, look at the numbers…Her other supporters should be wary of the James Carville/Dick Morris advisors she has, the same people who backed things like NAFTA and “Welfare Reform”…The Democratic Party in particular, and the Progressive Movement in general should be on guard. I’d rather risk getting the same ineffective ideas with Obama if he turns rightward, who has progressives on his team, than get more DLC sell outs of the American People with Clinton’s team who has done that already in one White House…Call me what you want, but all my critques are based on policy history, not necklaces…

WHAT MESSAGES OBAMA BRINGS TO WI, COPIES FROM SOMEONE ELSES BOOK AND ALL BELOW, Tell them BILL. HILLARY let Obama to lie about his real estate, and nuclear deals, misrepresent HILLARY’s ideas and plans (you could check the facts), having his hit men threatening the Black super delegates (who is playing the race card now), and not to accept the MI, and FL, votes (Al Shampton, Jesse Jackson Jr.) and even copy and use as his own the plans that HILLARY has for a long time now (his new economic plan) without answering back. But this kind behavior to mislead the voters is disgraceful HILLARY and any of her supporters needs to fight back even harder and we are behind you HILLARY. Speaking of mothers and children…My mother died of cancer before the elections began. I donated part of my inheritance to Hillay’s campaign because Mom loved Hillary’s courage, her hard work, and her compassion for ALL of us. Mom wanted me to become a Special Education Teacher. I did. Now, when I look around the room at the precious faces, I know that my students are in my class because Hillary fought (in the 1970’s) for the rights of children with Special Needs to have a Free and Appropriate Public Education. Two days ago, the Kids and Cars Safety Act was passed. This equips vehicles with child detection technology, so that no poor parent will ever again know the horror of backing up over their own child. Hillary worked with Republican Senators to sponsor this bill in 2005. Hillary helps those who don’t have a voice. Hillary Clinton was clearly my mother’s champion. Now, she is mine. Jacqueline

Vote for Hillary! She is intelligent and she is hard-working. She has great solutions for America in these tough times; and they are her plans. I’m so disappointed that Sen. Obama has not much plans of his own. He copies Hillary Clinton’s plan. And, now, his words are just copies as well. We all need to support Hillary. She will really get great things done for us, for this country. Vote her Hillary.

A long string of comments, so I’ll be brief. I’m astonished by the posts that suggest the heartfelt message from Chelsea’s friends is somehow elitist. Sidwell — with which I am in no way affiliated — is not a “rich kids” school. People may make other candidate choices, but, please, don’t do so for the wrong reasons. Hillary has been an exceptional Senator, and, before that, made substantive contributions while being first lady in international affairs, in health care, and more. Her work in education, health care and civil liberties earlier in her career is notable in its own right. Please, take a close look. If you do, I believe that you will consider HRC very seriously on her own merits. I know her, and I have seen her integrity and loyalty in relationships with people who are NOT in the headlines. I would be so proud of my country and so confident in our capacity to respond to a weak global economic outlook if HRC were elected President.

All of you undertheinflunce of Obama should read the internet. He has books but books are his words. Check out what his life has really been like. Or do you not want to see that Obama is as crooked as many politicians. Check out website taylormarsh.com scroll down to Obama articules. This ain’t no squeaky clean guy. You can believe the republicans will read about and dig up this stuff. As a matter of fact their just waiting for the chance. Why do you think their pushing for Obama on all the controled cable news stations. Is Obama that much of an ego maniac to believe these cable news talking heads aren’t controled by the Powers that be? Their setting him up for a fall when the Republicans bring up all the muck thats on the internet about the not so nice Obama. Why is it that the Obama followers are always so negative and heartless. I thought his message was that he was going to bring the country together. Sure seems like he will bring all the negativity together. Check out the new Obama speech on Utube that he copied from Deval Patrick, his buddy. The if Obama gets elected, which he won’t because we will all be voting Republican, George Bush will start to look good.

Hillary for President and Barack for Vice President - what a team that would be! Experience and Inspiration. This way Barack would be in our lives potentially for 16 years instead of just 8 years. It will take 16 years to clean up the mess and fulfill all of the promises both have made.

Today a guy called the Stephanie Miller Show claiming that Hillary personally got involved in helping with his supposedly terminally ill daughter. He also called the Ed Schultz Show and gave totally different details. Way to make stuff up in some pathetic attempt to gain sympathy! It’s the same thing with 90% of these posts…these are people who have nothing to do with UW and may never have even been to Wisconsin.
It would be really interesting to see an article about where all the IP addresses came from on these posts. (hint, hint)

Always surprised of how much hatred comes from the Obama backers, they really turn me off. I have heard many similar negative comments on the ration from the black community, I do think him and his Campaign only encourages bad sentinments and resentment in the black community.
His supporters reaction is a big sign that his Campaing and message of unity and hope are phony.

Let’s take Hillary to the White House!

It saddens me to see that a woman as accomplished, intelligent, articulate, confident, and strong as Hillary Clinton can still be subjected to narrow minded stereotypes and ignorance. The level of sexism that is apparent in this campaign is really quite disturbing. Any man can spew negative comments about a woman, but it takes a real man to stand up for one. I am one of the REAL MEN! Hillary Clinton has my vote. MEN FOR HILLARY!!

As an educator I appreciate Hillary Clinton’s efforts on behalf of Special Needs students in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s Hillary initiated and passed the Children’s Health Insurance Program that insured thousands of poverty stricken children. In the 1990’s Hillary developed and worked to pass legislation for Universal Health Care, which was vetoed by the Republicans. Hillary also personally visited and spoke out on Human Rights and Women’s Rights in China, Africa, and the Middle East. She also negotiated behind the scenes in Ireland to end the Conflict in Ireland and sign a Treaty. Hillary was the first ambassador for US to visit HIV patients and bring medications to Africa. As Senator to New York she was on the street every day at the World Trade Center site after 9/11 with only one security guard taking notes on what medications and help was needed and spoke out on the toxic air that the Bush administration said was not dangerous. She has since made sure the firemen and doctors who now have lung cancer get the health care they need. The lies about how Hillary Clinton is divisive in the Senate is not the truth. Ask any of the Republican Senators who have worked with her and they admit she has not been difficult at all, in fact they have found her surprisely willing to compromise and pass legislation in the interests of her constiuents and the country. Now for Senator Obama, I have relatives who live in Illinois and voted for him for Senator. They are disappointed and feel betrayed by Obama’s poor record. He has failed to vote or follow through legislation. He has allowed Nuclear waste to seep into water supplies unregulated; he allowed thousands of jobs to leave the state, while the CEO of the corporation donated to his campaign. He has made deals with lobbyists to further his career. Obama is not JFK or RFK, they accomplished human rights during their tenure in office. Although don’t be fooled by the Kennedy men, they have plenty of skeletons in their closet. JFK, RFK and Senator Ed Kennedy all had affairs with dozens of women and heavy drinking have plagued the clan for decades. Read your American History. Before you throw stones at the Clinton family, you better read the books both candidates have written and research their legislation history and the real substance of their accomplishments. Then and only then make your decision for who will be the best President for our country. My researched choice is Hillary Clinton.

More and more people are hearing about Hillary Clinton being more “human” through stories such as these. You see what types of friends this woman has. Then, you hear of Obama’s friends, whom all share their one-liners and other catchy slogans. I’ve listened to PLENTY of speeches from both candidates. People always say Clinton is “tough” and not in a good way. But in her speeches, she mentions the Democratic party more, the necessity of beating the Republicans, her agenda. Obama likes to end every other sentence with “when I’m the president of the United States of America.” Great rhetoric, but who is really more focused on themselves? The tough lady talking about our country and her party or the guy talking about himself?

Yes, Chelsea works for a hedge fund. SO WHAT? No one, absolutely no one gets a job at a hedge fund because their parents are politicians. There are financial examinations, plenty of them, that a person must pass to work there. Chelsea works there because she has a good head on her shoulders.
-a person who also works for a hedge fund and actually knows how people are hired!

A beautiful tribute to a remarkable woman. She is a real inspiration to all of us, and deserves our thanks and praise for a life dedicated to helping others - helping create the Adoption & Safe Families Act, instrumental in designing Children’s Health Insurance, working to help children through Vaccines for Children Program, donating proceeds from her ground breaking book, It Takes a Village, to chidren causes….the list goes on. GO HILLARY 08!!!

I am a white female who crossed political lines to vote Democrat. I only did this because Senator Clinton is the only choice for President. If she does not win the nomination and I have to make a choice on what man to vote for, it will be a Republican one. I won’t take any chances with inexperience again.

I voted for Obama and now I am sorry that I did. The folks who support him seem to have no compassion at all. Doublespeak. These are young women who have the right to stick up for what they believe and someone they adore. Last time I checked, we still live in America.
Go, Hillary!

This was a very thoughtfully written piece by Chelsea’s friends, and the respect that they have for her mother. Contrary to what Obama supporters believe, not every one believes the way they do. How are they going to change the world.
Every place I have gone to read has got the same posts from Obama’s people, very racist and cruel toward Hillary’s supporters. Is this what Obama stands for yes we can? Seems his supporters do. I guess I could comment on the OOPS large slip up Michelle Obama made today. Seems Michelle hasn’t ever been proud of the United States until now, when her man is running. Amen.
That should actually offend almost everyone of us, to have a possible future first lady of the USA admit she hasn’t been proud of her country until her old man started running for the highest office of the land Amen.
Maybe Obama’s supporters better have a talk with her on what direction she is trying to lead in. Hope she doesn’t say that to one of our enemy states Amen.

I have to agree with the observation regarding the negativity of the Obama supporters against not only Hillary but personal attacks against those who support her. You guys are really creepy. Couldn’t agree with poster who said with all this bashing, what makes you think Clinton supporters are going to be backing your man in November. “Bring People Together” hummmm.
Obama supporters, talk about “elistists”, oh I forgot you know the “truth”. Which truth is that, your “truth”. Very ironic for people who are suppose to bring people together. Though, I’m independent, I got to say Obama and his supporters are really starting turning me off.
IP hash: 68ba117f
I find all of the comments blaming the negativity here on Obama supporters pretty amusing. I’ve read through all of the posts, and there are very few negative comments by folks identified as Obama supporters. Just because you want to believe that Obama supporters are simply out to get Clinton, doesn’t make it so. Please use some common sense, and maybe a little logic too.

To Michael Johnson:
You are like BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA keep using NAFTA against Senator Clinton within fact BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA get his information from NESDAYS by distorting it for his advantage to get elected. We are glad that NEWSDAY (the source of BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA) corrected it.
Shame on you, and shame on BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA! Stop distorting the truth….
Go for Hillary Clinton….
NAFTA: Us, Hillary and the “Boon”
The Democratic campaign has moved in earnest to Ohio, where times are tough and NAFTA has become a dirty word. In an effort to score points, Barack Obama has been dropping a mail-piece (left) that repeats a charge he has made several other times during the campaign — that “Hillary Clinton believed NAFTA was ‘a boon’ to the economy.”
This attack has attracted a flurry of attention, from Clinton’s campaign and some reporters. As it turns out, the primary source is us. Back in Sept. 2006, an abbreviated chart printed on Newsday’s Spin Cycle page compared Hillary with her Democratic US Senate primary challenger Jonathan Tasini on a variety of issues. The issues chart included this: “FREE TRADE
JONATHAN TASINI: Tasini favors scrapping the Bill Clinton-backed North American Free Trade Agreement, saying it drives down domestic wages.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON: Clinton thinks NAFTA has been a boon to the economy, but voted against the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement, saying it would drive jobs offshore.”
Because it’s raised questions — with Clinton criticizing Obama for making “false claims” in the mail piece — we’ve looked into the chart. In it, we did not have the Clinton campaign using the word “boon” in describing NAFTA. The word was our characterization of how we best understood her position on NAFTA, based on a review of past stories and her public statements. Tasini called for scrapping NAFTA in 2006. She did not.
We do not have a direct quote indicating her campaign told us she thought it was good for the economy at that time. Also, for that matter, Clinton’s campaign did not contact us to question the item after it appeared in print.
Obama’s use of the citation in this way does strike us as misleading. The quote marks make it look as if Hillary said “boon,” not us. It’s an example of the kind of slim reeds campaigns use to try to win an office. That said, we should have been clearer. Dan Janison

TO ALL BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA supporters: Here is your leader (BARRACK HUSSIEN OBAMA) support on NAFTA. And now HE IS using it for his own advantage by distorting the truth against Senator Clinton…
Why he changed now? And use it to attack Senator Clinton…He is really playing dirty… What a shame?
Newspapers Reported Obama’s Support of NAFTA, Desire To Pursue Similar Agreements 2/16/2008 3:36:37 PM
Associated Press: Obama said the United States should ‘pursue deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.’ “Obama said the United State should continue to work with the World Trade Organization and pursue deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.” [AP, 9/8/04]
Decatur Herald & Review: ‘Obama said the United States benefits enormously from exports under the WTO and NAFTA.’ “While some people believe NAFTA has been good for U.S. farmers, the trade results could have been better, Keyes said. NAFTA negotiators said the United States might lose manufacturing jobs but would become a service economy, but now those service jobs also are being exported, he said. Obama said the United States benefits enormously from exports under the WTO and NAFTA. He said, at the same time, there must be recognition that the global economy has shifted, and the United States is no longer the dominant economy. ‘We have competition in world trade,’ Obama said. ‘When China devalues its currency 40 percent, we need to bring a complaint before the WTO just as other nations complain about us. If we are to be competitive over the long term, we need free trade but also fair trade.” [Decatur Herald & Review, 9/9/04]

Good she was a good Mom. I dont need another Mom.
Let’s take a closer look at who’s really qualified and or who’s really working for the good of all of us in the Senate. Obama or Clinton. Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. - and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law - 20 - twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you trouble, I’ll post them here for you. 1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site. 2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month. 3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. 4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall. 5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson. 6. Name post office after Jonn A. O’Shea. 7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day. 8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day. 9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death. 10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship. 11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship. 12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program. 13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda. 14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death. 15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton’s bills are, more substantive. 16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11. 17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11 18. Assist landmine victims in other countries. 19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care. 20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system. There you have it, the fact’s straight from the Senate Record. Re: WOW! Now, I would post those of Obama’s, but the list is too substantive, so I’ll mainly categorize. During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced 233 regarding healthcare reform, 125 on poverty and public assistance, 112 crime fighting bills, 97 economic bills, 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills, 21 ethics reform bills, 15 gun control, 6 veterans affairs and many others. His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded *the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law, *The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law, *The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate, *The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law, **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more. In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public. He’s not just a talker. He’s a doer. Pass it on….It’s impressive

This article is a great reminder that the candidates are real, compassionate people.
Thank you, Jacqueline, for sharing your story (Anonymous at 5:05 p.m.). Everyone should make sure to read it if you haven’t already!!!
Hillary has already demonstrated that she has and will always work tirelessly for all Americans. She is the only candidate left proposing universal healthcare. She is also the only candidate who has consistently dedicated herself to issues that affect the vast array of Americans, from children and families to Latinos to African Americans to the lower and middle classes to Native Americans to those facing foreclosure to veterans to ground zero workers, etc. As a Hillary supporter, I will continue to work hard for Hillary so that she can continue to work hard for all of us.

“Obama supporters are truly stunning in their venom and viciousness. This is the new breed of candidate and campaign with an inspirational message of unity?” So true! I thought I would vote for the Democratic nominee - now I know I cannot vote for Obama. The divisiveness, the rhetoric and the empty talk will not be good for the country. McCain vs Obama - McCain - better a republican than a dem in republican’s clothes.

Senator clinton definitely have my vote and many member of my family, not only because of the issues she will be fighting on our behalf, but also for her tremendous intelligence on all the issues which we face daily.

This was a beautiful tribute to Hillary, the person. I think these pieces are important because they show the human side of her, the coverage of which has been totally lacking in the media.
The viciousness of the attacks on Hillary by Obama supporters speaks VOLUMES about their candidate. They drove me away from even considering him as a choice… and made me look closer at Hillary and her record, and her character. If this ugliness is indicative of the character of Obama and his supporters, I know I made an excellent choice. I’m still waiting on that “unity” everyone has been screaming about at his rallies.

I think moments of spending time with your children’s friends are beautiful ones. Even if it helps with a campaign. You know what I’ve seen over the years with Hillary Clinton? She will fix and rework anything she feels she has done wrong. She works hard at fighting for america. She might want to be president, but if you look at how she enjoys pleasing and working for goals you can see she is the right person for president. She is more than just a power hunger or any other type of superficial- under it all she is the woman she started out to be- supportive and working hard to help others succeed. If her policies fail she works on new ones. She works very hard in life and that to me to reason to trust a woman with a loving daughter. Her compassion and understanding of a working president truly is in her blood.
IP hash: 75d56caf
What a nice tribute! I think Chelsea seems to have very nice friends that spoke from the heart. Chelsea is a hard-working, intelligent, industrious young lady who has stayed out of the public eye for most of her life. I think that she has always conducted herself well. I believe that she truly loves and admires her mother and you can see and feel that by her hard work and devotion to this campaign. She is not in this for the limelight, but because she knows her mother is the best qualified candidate in this election. She wants to get this message out. She knows that her mother has always been a champion for those without a voice. She knows how hard her mother has worked to help those in need. Hillary Clinton has always been an inspiration to me as well. As a woman I have viewed her as someone who followed her dreams. She worked incredibly hard, fought against uphill battles, went through difficult and trying times, but always hung in there. She showed other women how to be strong and to fight for what they believe in. Her accomplishments are remarkable. When I recently watched her in the California debate, I was truly impressed by her intelligence, her knowledge and grasp of the complex issues our country faces, and her ability to come up with solutions. But I also felt that she cares deeply about our nation and will really work hard and use her experience to make change a reality for everyone. Some of the comments that I have read here have been really mean and undeserved. To support another candidate is fine, but why does there seem to be so much hatred and nastiness that go with it. I hope all of you will truly evaluate your choices for President. I think this is the most important election of our lifetimes. I am proud and grateful to be supporting Hillary Clinton.

Wow, it’s interesting that someone wrote that “no one in Madison likes her”. I live in Madison…I go to school at the University of Madison. And I support Hillary Clinton 110%. So you have no right in saying that.
And echoing other peoples comments, why does everyone have to be so nasty about this?

Great! Hillary was busy being Supermom when she was First Lady! Wonderful! I wish she’d concentrated some of her considerable talents in the White House Master Bedroom instead of the White House Kitchen …
I mean, It’s just a cryin’ shame that Hillary couldn’t have kept her husband from straying. Now we know why !!! Apparently instead she was busy tending to “particularly bad teenage break-ups” of her daughter’s high school friends. Hmmph!
WHAT !?! You say, it’s not Hillary’s fault her husband cheated on her!!! Well, he should have been a better husband then. If so, America would’ve elected Al Gore by a more significant margin in 2000 and the whole “W” debacle would never have happened. Supreme Court or not!?!
I really used to sincerely admire the Clintons. As a leader and thinker, it’s hard to beat Bill Clinton. Hearing him speak on National policy is still riveting. But personally he’s also a creep and a liar. I blame him (and by default Hillary) for giving us 8 years of the worst President ever. There’s just no reason to reward them with a return to the White House.
I mean PLEASE !!! You know if Monica had washed that little black dress Bill would STILL be denying that anything ever happened between them !!!
Vote Obama !!!
Heck !!!
Vote McCain !!!

It is very true that Hillary and Chelsea dedicated their time and energy to promoted the advancement of women’s life in under devloping countries. For example, they visited a tiny vilaage in Bangladesh a few years ago where there was no electricity, no good roads. I do not know much about Chelsea, but very much aware about Hillary. Hillary sat on a mat laid on the mud floor and spent time with poor women. She could have had met them in a hotel after installing a new air condition. The goverenment would do anything for Hillary. Hillary opted to see the true condtion of the poor families specially very low income women. Hillary is an idol to millions of people around the world. I think Hillary is the most talented and hard working candidate in this race. Hillary deserves the nomination very much.

for someone as allegedly divisive and power hungry, can someone explain to me how Hillary was re-elected to the Senate with 62% of the vote and carried every county in the state?? Here is a place where they know Hillary for the last eight years. Nothing that she has done in her life deserves such vitriol.
IP hash: f1bdccb7
I am a muslim. I am Hillary’s supporter and voted her in the primary. I hope Hillary gets the nomination as she is the most talented caindiate in this race. One thing I do not agree with some of you who are either Hillary’s supporter, independent, or republican. You say write Barack’s full name in UPPER CASE highlighting his middle name is Hussein. At first, Obama is not a muslim as he says. He changed his religion to Christianity which is not a welcoming news to muslim. So, you should not hightlight his middle name as it does create anger among muslim. You are criticizing muslims for his misleading middle name. Secondly, you calim that you guys are democratic and liberal. I think you guys are very ultra religious. You oppose and hate people based their religion especially if it is islam. Your minds are preoccupied. Look at the world. Many countries have had woman pri-minister or presdient. For example, India, Srilanga, Indnesia, UK, Germany Bangladesh. They were elected overhelmly in general election like 80% vote. Some muslim counties have had non-muslim presidents or top ranking officail namely India, Iraq, Malyasia. You guys are still strugling to elect a woman as the president. So, change your mind set, do not get pre-occupied with gender or religion. Overall, generalization is not a good thing in my opinion.

Thank you Chelsea’s friends for writing such a beatiful article about Hillary.
I am appalled at all that the media has done to pump up Senator Obama and bash Senator Clinton. Amomg other things, Hillary has been unfairly portrayed as being polarizing.
There are many things that I see as polarizing in Obama, his camp and his followers. For one, Obama’s minister and spiritual adviser Mr. Jeremiah Wright, has often given sermons with racially divisive connotations. Mr. Wright has purportedly praised and honored a very controversial minister, Mr. Louis Farrakhan, calling him “the embodiment of greatness.” Mr. Farrakhan is known to have made racist and homophobic comments against Jews and gays.
As a woman, I am very proud to cast my vote for the most experienced, tested and caring candidate for the presidency: Hillary Clinton. (My boyfriend is voting for Hillary too)

I don’t think that it’s fair to cheapen Hillary’s experience as First Lady into not counting for anything. I’m a guy and even I can see that this is a case of sexism rearing its ugly head. It is common knowledge that Hillary was a very active First Lady, both in Arkansas and in the White House. If any man had had similar experience, it would be called the ultimate apprenticeship: 8 years of hands-on training and up-close observation of what the job demands.
Hillary has been actively working to create positive changes since she was, like us, in college. As president of Wellesley’s student government in the late 60’s, she pressured the school into accepting and admitting more African-American students and hiring more diverse faculty. She initiated an Upward Bound program at Wellesley for the purpose of providing summer education programs for disadvantaged and inner-city youths, and, at the insistence of Wellesley’s student body, was the first student ever to deliver the commencement address. How many of us can say that?
She graduated from law school, worked for the Children’s Defense Fund, consulted for the Carnegie Council on Children, advised the House Judiciary Committee during Watergate, and became the first female to chair the board of the non-profit Legal Services Corporation, which was created by Congress to help provide everyone with equal access to and fair representation the court system.
I won’t even get into the Arkansas, White House, or Senate years so as to prevent this comment from turning into an essay, but the point is that Hillary is VERY experienced and has spent most of her life working hard to bring about positive changes in people’s everyday lives, especially in the lives of children, minorities, and the disadvantaged. That’s experience I can believe in.

I am confused - I did not know one had to be a student to post a comment - just like you don’t have to live in New York to post a comment for the New York Times, I just assumed freedom of speech. My bad. So, I am not a student, didn’t claim to be one in my previous comment, and I still feel the need to post again. I say again, this is news…there is a reason one is asked to give both personal and professional references when applying for a job - you can be exceptionally qualified and/or terrific to work with - but an employer needs to get a feel for the complete picture, and that certainly is true of a presidential candidate as well. So, I for one appreciate the opportunity to see a more personal side of Senator Clinton…and it does strengthen my confidence in her.
IP hash: 98327a85
I will never understand why certain sad people and the media try to portray Hillary as a horrible and cold person. I met her on the campaign trail, and she was very kind and sincere. A woman had traveled far to have Clinton sign a letter (she had received the letter from Hillary many years prior). The Secret Service and event promoters were trying to hurry Hillary along, but I was touched and taken aback -as I witnessed her stop the world— and make time for this woman and her letter. Hillary has been to Iraq multiple times and she is poised to bring our troops home SAFELY. Obama has only been to Iraq ONCE. Please think of our troops, and vote HILLARY.

If Obama supporters are this mean now, what are they going to do when he loses?!! His supporters are immature, mean spirited, and make me completely want to vote CLINTON. I don’t want to associate with any of the rude Obama supporters in this column…I hope they all grow up and move somewhere outside of the USA. It is UNAMERICAN to be so rude and full of vile. Is this how Obama inspires you to act? YUCK!

I find it amazing that so many people carry the “not in my backyard” mentality to the Internet. The Presidential race is a national race and the Internet is the ne “market place.” People can now voice their opinions any place in the world and that is a wonderful thing. As for Hillary, she is the right person at the right time.

That is why we have 10 euphoric clintonistas with to much time on their hand spamming this section.
Notice how they all threaten to vote for a republican if anyone dare to critizise the queen.
Notice how they all type from the same talking point: “obama supporters are mean” “clinton have achieved sooo much” (what exactly???)etc.
At the end of the day the democratic party have chosen 2 inexperienced candidates with zero credibility or achivements to talk about. THis leave them and their supporters to attack eachother and compete in the “who can use the word change the most” game. Evan Bayh or Mark Warner would be good candidates who have actually done something for the people they are supposed to represent.

Thank you for showing Hillary Clinton as a real human being, which so few others choose to do! She is a strong, intelligent, tenacious professional who has inspired these young women to believe and to take action to achieve their dreams, despite the obstacles in the way. Hillary inspires the same in many different people across the US and abroad. Despite her very loud and harsh critics, she goes about her work to benefit us all. She is truly admirable!

This is a beautiful and heartwarming article that shows Hillary’s mom side. Unfortunately, Obama supporters are here to bash Hillary’s human and professional sides with idiotic logic. Who cares if Chelsea works for a hedge fund? The point is she has become a normal young lady with loyal friends who admire her mother. There’s no need to be jealous, because the Obama camp has plenty of wealthy educated kids too.

Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate for President. She has earned the nomination. Hillary’s experience as a lawyer, education reformer, first lady of the United States of America and Arkansas, Senator, wife and mother makes her uniquely qualified to lead our great nation! The letter submitted by friends of Chelsea just go to show the many sides of this great American. The American media does not like Hillary. They generally print and verbalize negative comments about her regardless of the truth. I have never felt this strongly about a candidate. I am voting for Hillary. Hillary Rodham Clinton for President!

I think Hillary and everything she stands for is America. If you are looking for someone perfect you won’t find him or her. If you tear someone down it isn’t the issue at hand. Let’s build up a great President and be proud. Let’s unite and be glad someone took the time to have a relaxed moment with her daughter’s friends rich or not. Take a side and be happy with your decision. I am very proud to say Hillary for 2008.

As a Republican-leaning independent, I will vote for Barack Obama if he is the Democratic nominee running against John McCain but I will not vote for Hillary Clinton. * When did Hillary Clinton demonstrate her infamous economic wisdom and foresight while Alan Greenspan was warning of irrational exuberance as the subprime housing loans were created and pandered during her husband’s administration and her husband supported China’s entry into the World Trade Organization without any conditions such as protecting the environment or labor and property rights to levels that are comparable to western standards? * Today China is not only a leading contributor to environmental pollution and global warming (thank you very much Mr. Nobel Laureate, Al Gore), it’s also pushing up oil and other commodity prices, taking our jobs and stealing our intellectual property. * A person’s character is shaped and tested by their experiences which is why our next President’s character should matter as much if not more than their experience. * 1969 - While Barack Obama was being raised by a single mother and experiencing a life of racial and cultural diversity, Hillary Clinton was learning the art of triangulation and writing an admiring college thesis on Saul Alinsky whose fifth rule of political agitation was, “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” * 1979 - While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary was reaping profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and leaving taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout. * 1989 - While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review’s first black president in its 104 year history, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor was receiving payments from a law firm that was doing the state’s business and receiving board of director payments from Wal-Mart where she remained silent about Wal-Mart’s anti-labor union practices. * 1999 - While Barack Obama was securing bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary Clinton was urging her husband to bomb Yugoslavia and supporting his Iraq “regime change” policy in order to divert public attention from the president’s marital, legal and ethical infidelities. * 2007 - While Barack was promoting a restoration of balance between work and wealth and criticizing special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary and her husband were liquidating their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office. * While the public benefited from Barack Obama’s public accomplishments, it was only Hillary Clinton who benefited from her personal achievements. * Like her husband, Hillary has no attachment to any position, no leadership qualities and no legal, ethical or moral compass to guide her and would need polls to guide her to a position. * The Irrational Nineties like the Roaring Twenties decade that preceded the Great Depression, were both a golden age for technology, scandal-plagued politicians, corporate greed, and unrestrained personal debt and speculation. * Barack Obama possesses the leadership, principles and visionary qualities of character needed to unite and lead our country as the global economy teeters on the brink of economic meltdown not unlike the Great Depression.

My daughter had two heart surgery’s, cancer and a kidney transplant by the time she was eight. Her “Make A Wish” was simply to meet Hillary. Hillary was gracious enough to offer my daughter a private tour of the White House. She spent some very personal time with my daughter that was a special momemt for both of us. It has also served to inspire my daughter who is now a young activist at Portland State University. I don’t know the young people in the article but I do know Hillary treated our family with incredible love and compassion without anything to gain by her or us. As far as I know this story has never been told and the only photos of this tender moment were taken and given to our family. Hillary like Obama is certainly working all angles to secure the democratic nomination but our family will never guestion her genuine interest in helping people.

Chelsea Clinton is a true tribute to her parents. There is no doubt about that, and she obviously has close friends from her school days.
However, I do have to wonder why someone like Mrs. Clinton, so devoted to improving people’s lives, would have sent her child to one of the most privileged high schools in the country. Yes, it is a great school, and I don’t begrudge anyone who has the means to go to such a place. But, tuition costs are exorbitant for these private schools now- well above what they were 20 years ago, even adjusted for inflation, and this all began in the Reagan years and continued well through the Clinton era and beyond. What we have is a society that is incredibly titled to the well off. Meanwhile, our public school system is failing and the teachers unions do little to help that situation.
Maybe Mrs. Clinton would do something about this state of affairs, but her record seems to suggest otherwise. She is an incredibly hard working woman who has advanced her causes, many of them quite noble, but she, nor her husband, did little to address the growing income gap in this country. Now perhaps no politician can do much about it because those that have the real power in this country- the monied interests who were quite happy to spend the night in the Lincoln bedroom- determine how anyone gets elected in today’s environment.
Regardless, this is a moving letter. I am just not sure it adds much to why Mrs Clinton should be our next president.

I have many reasons not to vote. 1) I voted twice: for Gore in 2000, and for Kerry in 2008. Both lost. I feel whom ever I vote will lose. 2) I don’t have a party affliation—anyone will be better than Bush, the current president. 3) we will have real change regardless who gets the presidency: the first woman president, the first black president, or the oldest one.
after reading this article, and the comments after it, I think I might change my mind: I am leaning toward one candidate in particular somehow because I like the statement: It takes a Clinton to clean up the Bush mess. I will think about it: to vote or not vote.

I decided today to vote for Hillary Clinton. I think that she is the perfect person for the job. I read the above story and my heart was filled with joy of how she cares for people. I think she cares for this country and will show us when she wins. I could not decide between her and Obama until I looked on the web sites and read and listened to speeches made by both and decided on Hillary.
IP hash: b9e885cd
Does anybody even know why Obama sounds so much like JFK or Bobbie Kennedy? He has the same speech writer people. Frankly I could care less who he sounds like, I love Hillary and I have been following her amazing career for many years. I have never understood why people seem to be so hateful towards her she is an absolutely amazing woman. A role model for any child, black, white, yellow, green, boy or girl. And if you look at Hillary’s platform which she put out in May of last year you can easily tell that Obama has stolen it from her with a couple minor differences. I will never vote Obama after reading his platform and realizing it’s practically been plagerized from Hillary’s and I will never vote for him after going to his church website. That is the most racist organization next to the NAACP I have ever witnessed and I will not support someone who supports racism in any form. The man is a pig.
GO Hillary, you are the fighter, and smarter of the two. You rock!!
Sincerely, Laurie

I am disgusted at the level of vitriol between the Obama and Hillary camps.
One thing I would like to point out to Madison college voters that may be too young to remember this - Hillary does not represent the “same old” politics of Bush / Clinton. Actually, there is no “Bush / Clinton”. If you are a DEMOCRAT, Clinton’s presidency was and is still widely viewed to be a success - especially given the conservatives who were trying to stymie him at the time. The people who don’t like Bill Clinton are probably not the types of people you would be friends with, unless you are a conservative.
With that said, Obama is also a good candidate. I read his books - he is inspiring.
For me, I will be voting for Hillary in TX in 2 weeks. Why? I believe she has more experience, is more intelligent, and will be able to fight conservatives more effectively than someone who is trying to court conservatives as part of his base. To me, she is the only real DEM on the ballot, folks. If Obama is truly a change-agent, he should be able to accomplish a lot in the Senate and run for President in 2016 - and THAT is what is best for the party and the country.
IP hash: d15f2e8b
I am proud to be a Hillary supporter. I respect Obama’s accomplishments, but Hillary has the foresight and planning to accomplish meaningful change to improve our lives and bring our men and women home safely from Iraq and Afghanistan.
I agree with others on this site that some of you posting should save the vitriol for a more appropriate blog. This is about Chelsea’s friends supporting Hillary and describing her as warm, compassionate person. Attacking those young woman personally as privileged, attacking Chelsea, and attacking Hillary for spending time in the kitchen rather than time in the bedroom are so ridiculous and immature I am astonished to see them on this site.
It is so discouraging to see the continuing viciousness directed at female leaders. As for the kind women who wrote the letter above, why criticize their backgrounds? They have a right to share their opinions. Some people are born into privilege - it is not their doing. It is what you make of your life that counts. Attacking these young women and Chelsea for having opportunities and benefits that others lack is not the answer. The root of these problems must be identified so the problems can be fixed. I believe that is what Hillary, more than Obama, is working on. She has real plans. Where are the details in Obama’s strategies for change?
IP hash: 296c01e6
This is the United States of America in case anyone forgot. We have the freedom to say what we want. Unfortunately from what I’ve read here, many lack tack and respect when they speak out. You can feel strongly about someone or something without being so hateful. If you support Obama, then stand up for your candidate and speak out for him with some intelligence and grace.
Why do some feel the need to attack Clinton as if she is the most horrible person in the country? Hillary Clinton is getting my vote because I have researched both candidates. I have done my homework. I am a 28 year old, college educated woman who can make her own choice. I support Hillary for what she has accomplished and for what I believe she can do for this country as President. I don’t listen to the media to make my choice. I don’t make my choice based on race or gender. I don’t make my choice based on whether or not someone’s spouse cheated on them. I want someone who I believe can make a change in this country. I whole-heartedly believe that Hillary is the candidate who can make this a better country and fix all of the horrible mistakes that the Bush Administration have made in this country.
Please do your homework and research the candidates. And no matter who you chose to support, you aren’t doing the Democratic party any favors by being so hateful towards the candidate that is running against your first choice. We need to stick together as Democrats come November.

One thing I have learned is that Obama supporters are very rude, I can see why I am not a supporter of his, because I am a nice person. Without doubt he only attracts the rude people, since everyone I have seen saying they support him have been very rude.
Hillary is the one who will Lead this Country in the way that it should be, and that is why I stand firm and tall behind Hillary Clinton…..

jonah- barack obama does not keep his promises. when he was running for senate, he ridiculed washington support of the war in iraq, in particular, a bill to support troops with $80.7 billion in funding. after being elected, he supported every single iraq war funding effort.

I am the mother of five beautiful children, and as a mother i am always glad to hear about another Parent who is involved with, and engaged by, her children… Barack Obama also seems like a devoted father, one who makes time for his young daughters even through the rigorous campaign. However, their parenting skills aren’t going to be a factor in my decision on whom to vote for— I’ve voting for the leader who sees in our nation the potential for unrealized greatness, the one who will make this country better for my children. I’m voting for Barack Obama— as a mother, I feel he’s our best hope.

This article is a collection of very nice words from some young people who probably don’t go to UW.

The Badger Herald should not have run this column for a very simple reason: Chelsea Clinton will not talk to reporters.
She’s used all the time as a campaign surrogate, she travels the country campaigning on her own for her mom, she’s 27, substantially employed by a company that’s heavily influenced by US policy, yadda yadda.
But she doesn’t talk to reporters.
This is a real issue in a campaign — the manipulation of media through threats of access (you push Chelsea, hillary won’t talk to your network) completely undermine the role of campaign reporters to present the information necessary for an informed democracy. Obama’s not much better — he’s notoriously tight-lipped with the media.
A respectable newspaper should decline Chelsea-based op-eds because of this. (And if there’s an Obama equiv. feel free to apply this too…) There is no respect for the role of media — and if there wasn’t a role for media, why push this op-ed.
Love, Former UW J School TA who’s damn happy to see the Herald in the news. 202 Rulez!

Hillary,
I have been living at my Catholic Church these days praying for you. It is so important for the American people to WAKE UP and realize you are the one person who can get us out of the mess we are currently in. THERE IS NO ONE WHO CAN PULL THIS OFF BUT YOU. I have been studying this campaign race for over a year now, and I have to say I am a little surprised and sorry that Mr. Obama is doing so well. Just because he is a good speaker and has charisma DOES NOT MEAN HE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO SAVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
All you have to do is read everything Hillary has accomplished versus what Barack has accomplished, and then there is simply NO COMPETITION. May God Bless you with some victories tonight, and may God Bless us by having you in the White House.Go!! Hillary !!Go!!!!

OMG! Do you have guys have amnesia or what?
One thing I would like to point out to all voters that may be too young to remember - Hillary does represent the “same old” politics of Bush / Clinton.
Republicans HATE the Clintons & the Clintons HATE the Republicans, right back!
Hillary may be vetted and have concrete “solutions” but that doesn’t mean the Republicans won’t use the same old ammo they’ve always used against her. It’s the same old partisan war from the past 16 years!!!
The way Hillary pounced on Barack for even mentioning Ronald Reagan’s name is not the way Democrats are gonna win a mandate (what we need) in the general election.
Her phrase: “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”, the polarization of the country into red states and blue states, all of that mushroomed in the 90’s. Right wing talk radio barely existed before the Clintons; but every few months there was another stupid psuedo-scandal: Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Travel-gate, Whitewater, Filegate, Vince Foster’s suicide, etc. Of course, most of charges were ridiculous but leave it to Bill to cheat even though he KNEW the Republicans were after him.
Bill was like Gary Hart on STEROIDS!! And what’s worse: It’s what got “W” ELECTED!
Policy-wise, if you are a true DEMOCRAT, Clinton’s presidency was riddled with compromises that often did more harm to the causes Democrats are SUPPOSED to care about: NAFTA, Don’t ask, Don’t tell! The DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT!, expansion of the federal death penalty, Bill’s “era of big government is over” speech. Even Hillary’s original health care program (from 1992) never got off the ground: first because it was all negotiated in secret & then, of course, it was forgotten in Bill’s second term because Bill couldn’t keep his libido in check!
The number one thing Bill Clinton’s Presidency will be remembered for 100 years from now … his impeachment over lying about his infidelity!!!
True ~ It may not be Hillary’s “fault” that Bill cheated and lied about it. But it became the Democratic Party’s “problem”.
I don’t know, maybe if she’d left him, I’d feel differently about her.
What I do know is however much I miss the 90’s, I’m not inspired by the idea of returning the two of them to the White House.
I am weary of being embarrassed by the occupant(s) of the White House.
For me, I want real change and I will be voting for Obama in TX in 2 weeks. He may yet prove to be a chimera but for now I have hope.

You should see how hard Chelsea Clinton works. She has been taught to work hard, to practice a “discipline of gratitude” (to quote her mom) and to give back however she can and at every opportunity. It is not an accident that Chelsea turned out as well as she did. She learned her values by watching her mom, who practices them every day. Chelsea gets to work early, stays late, helps out with many causes including improving poor people’s access to health, which she thinks is of the utmost importance. She is super smart and not afraid to use her smarts for good. When I have a daughter, I hope her Chelsea Auntie can be a big influence on her!

I am a spectator from Canada who has always been a fun of the Clintons. I ihave watched Hillary fight for the people espercially with healthcare which we enjoy so much in Canada. This Lady is being treated so badly by the powers that be and using Obama in the process. Please don’t make a mistake. Vote someone who has proven to make a difference. Presidency is not about looks or speeches. most of the people who have made a diference in our lives may not be the best in appearance or speech. Remember, not all that glitter’s is gold. Hillary, Please keep fighting. you have been here before. you can do it. don’t give up on your intellegence and strength, do the best with your chin up and stand tall. At the end, you will be justified no matter what the results will be, believe me you will be. The media has been brutal to you, but I know you will make it up no matter how this turns out. Keep fighting. from your Canadian friend.

I think the biggest slap in the face through this whole primary has been the reality that women are still looked upon with such disdain and disrespect. The comments that people make about Hillary Clinton, more often then not, relate to her sex, her husband’s affair, her clothing and hair. I really thought we had come farther than that. I rarely have heard a solid argument against Hillary as a public servent. The typical comment, from both men and women, is about their personal dislike for her. I find it odd that Obama supporters are supporting a candidate who’s campaign workers are told not to talk about issues but instead discuss “how they came to Obama.” I am sorry, but that is just creepy. If the media would cover this election in a fair and impartial manner, we would be hearing about issues and who really deserves the office of POTUS. Instead, we get a bunch of “hollywood” coverage of the “cool” candidate and we rarely hear about substance. HILLARY CLINTON IS THE SUBSTANCE IN THIS CAMPAIGN. SHE MAY NOT BE THE COOLEST CANDIDATE, BUT THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, OUR PRESIDENT’S OFFICE WAS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN THAT. REMEMBER, THE LAST CANDIDATE WHO WAS ELECTED TO OFFICE BECAUSE PEOPLE FELT LIKE THEY COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE A BEER WITH HIM, IS THE SAME PRESIDENT WE ARE CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO GET RID OF.

I am also an international spectator from Asia. I also believe that Mrs. Clinton can bring the change (e.g. the economy decline). Please keep on fighting. Thank you for your hard work, and especially during this campaign with the late hours and constant awake, please don’t forget to take some sleep. It’s just the beginning :) I believe only the people, who close to someone could really know the person. I think this is their memories knowing Mrs. Clinton. Sometimes it would be easier to be jealous at someone better, who is also surrounded with better networks and conditions. I think even a child born into a politician family would experience more difficulties, not because they have everything to make themselves better, but they have bigger responsibilities with their knowledge and abilities. May God bless Mrs. Clinton and her family going through this challenging time.

Thank You for saying what many woman, and men are thinking, you are not alone in realizing that woman have not come as far as we thought. You are also not alone in recognizing that this campaign is once again a popularity contest to see who can get the most celeb backers. I hate this campaign, and I hate the cruel, uneducated people who talk about Hilary in the way they have been on here. It makes me sick to see so many people attacking her through one piece some grad students wrote. It makes me wonder what people are saying in the forums about the real issues. I know so many people who support obama for the same reasons your talking about, and when I ask then what they think he stands for, or what he even did before he ran for president, they cant tell me, they just say, well I dont like hilary so hes my only choice. This whole campaign just infuriates me!! Good luck Hilary I am behind you, and I will vote, and have voted, and you were right to say that, you’ll be ok if you dont win, but will we?

Tsk, Tsk, tsk! Enough nay saying. It amazes me how many remarks were negative. In lieu of seeing a positive in a person dig, dig, dig. Everyone has afriend whose mother is that type, if you did not, sorry for you.
