In response to "Pelosi's visit to Syria necessary" by Gerald Cox:
This hissyfit of pundits is absurd. 1) Republicans went with Pelosi. 2) President Bush absolutely refuses to recognize Syria (kind of like how Iran refuses to recognize Israel, no?). 3) Past House members, republican delegations even, have gone to other countries to discuss diplomacy. 4) Condi and Laura Bush have both worn headscarves during visits to the Middle East. It's all just political posturing by the Right to make up for the fact that their Foreign policy is completely myopic.
With her trip, Ms. Pelosi has now reassured the Syrian strongman that Mr. Bush lacks the domestic support to impose any further pressure on his country. She has also made it less likely that Mr. Assad will cooperate with the Hariri probe, or assist the Iraqi government in defeating Baathist and al Qaeda terrorists. This is the same Syrian regime that has facilitated the movement of money and insurgents to kill Americans in Iraq.
In response to "Stay in the shallow end" by The Badger Herald Editorial Board:
Seriously, if ASM were to disband some services might be missing for the student body, however, students would have more money to be able to support other groups/organizations/themselves to not only make up for the loss services but have extra also. -Germain E. Stemme
In response to "UW must invest in partner benefits" by Sundeep Malladi:
Why do married couples have any more rights than singles? Perhaps we need to eliminate marriage benefits (and penalties) and leave marriage in its rightful place, church. If states can be colorblind, states can be marriage blind.
In response to "Bill O'Reilly hits new lows in Geraldo beef" by Charles Lim:
Deporting an illegal law-breaker is not a smart approach. I think both, illegal and legal immigrants who commit serious crimes such as DUI or illegal drug possession should be prosecuted in accordance with law of this country. Deportation of illegal law-breakers will not do any good because some of them deliberately seek opportunities to commit such crimes just to get a free-ride ticket back to where they came from in the first place and besides, it won't stop them from entering this country again in the future.
In response to "Imus' fate should depend on market, not critics" by Will Smith:
He should have said he was trying to do some rapping. What he said is small beer compared to rap lyrics.
To date about 2,500,000 civilians, targeted because of their ethnic or racial identity, have been driven from their homes, more than 300,000 people killed, and more than 1,600 villages destroyed by Sudanese government soldiers and government-backed militias, known as the "Janjaweed." But Jesse and Al are all worked up about Imus.
I would have like to see a larger response from the Feminist community… once again the plight of the black woman falls on deaf ears with the Women's movement. damn.
