Letter to the Editor:
This Badger Herald has crossed the line. The cartoon "Better Left Unsaid: A Journey to the Center of a Coastie's Vagina!" is the most unpleasant and offensive thing I've ever seen in your paper. The shoutouts always say a bunch of benign little Coastie comments: uggs are ugly! Ha! Ha!
But this cartoon combines all the whining into something really malicious—we don't like their pants, or their uggs, or their sunglasses, they're stupid and slutty, and they stink. Can you imagine what kind of uproar this talk would generate if it was directed towards any other group?!
I feel like this cartoon is making us Wisconsin people look like a bunch of hateful Nazis.

Are you kidding me??? "A bunch of hateful Nazis"? You're seriously equating the plight of coasties to that of the Jews?
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 1:14am):
"Better Left Unsaid" is a horribly unfunny comic (like most of the comics in the badgerherald), but this comic is one of the worst.
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 2:50am):
Boy I sure wish they'd put the comics online so I too can laugh at the costie's misfortunes.
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 7:35am):
Katie, you CHOOSE to wear ridiculous clothing. Coasties should not compare themselves to persecuted ethnic groups, a birth trait, but to a group who have chosen self-segregation. Coasties should more accurately compare themselves to circus clowns. Your costumes are, after all, difficult to distinguish.

wednesday's comic strip made a joke about genocide, where does the herald draw the line?
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 9:18am):
"Can you imagine what kind of uproar this talk would generate if it was directed towards any other group?!"
Come on now, they are not a cetified PC victim group. Next thing you'll probably want to chasise women for kicking guys in the junk!
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 9:33am):
2:50, they do. Are you blind?
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 10:44am):
Yes. Nazis. Goodwin's law has been invoked. Anyone comparing anything to nazis is immediately discredited.
That comic is the funniest think in either paper and I am damn happy the herald prints it.
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 11:24am):
"Better Left Unsaid" is by far the funniest comic in both the BH and the DC. Hands down. Why don't you stupid people wake up and realize that it is just a comic, not headline news or some meaningless politcal drivel from the opinion section. we laugh at offensive jokes on tv, in movies, and in print every single day. why dont you haters grow up and realize that just because we live in madison doesnt mean we have to say all nice things to everyone all the time. keep writing letters to the BH, im sure it will take out their best comic strip......yeah right!
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 2:00pm):
Hey, thanks to all of you who understand it's just a comic strip. If anyone ever has any comments about it, don't post anonymously, just e-mail me at better@badgerherald.com I really enjoy some good political discussion!

It was a tasteless comic from a tasteless strip. I'm a male, and even I deplored it. Whoever comes up with that strip needs to stop, or be a litte more creative and funny.
Anonymous (March 30, 2007 @ 10:23pm):
Coasties @ UW deserve to have shit talked about them. They got in here because they offer money. They make our school a fucking academic joke. They major in communication arts. They also make jews look bad.

"They got in here because they offer money."
It's actually easier to get in if yer an in-state local yokel. But yeah, yer probably stupid enough to drive the extra money away too.

I am Dr. K's father... I too am sometimes offended by things in the world...Never have I been offended by a Comic strip....Get a life!!!!

I suppose I could take offense, being that I'm a Coastie myself. But then, so many UW graduates end up moving to the East Coast looking for work. So I guess that says a lot about Wisconsin: nice place to visit, but you wouldn't wanna live here.
Anonymous (April 4, 2007 @ 9:53am):
Why does someone always bring up Jews? Jews are everywhere, not just the Coast. Sounds like anti-Semitism to me.
Anonymous (April 4, 2007 @ 4:20pm):
When I saw that series, I could not stop laughing. "Journey to the Center of a Coastie's Vagina" has all my support. Stretchy the Pant! Clitosaurus Ugg! LOLZ

"Wisconsin: nice place to visit, but you wouldn't wanna live here."
Maybe if you could get a job? Or wanted to pay the taxes?
Anonymous (April 12, 2007 @ 7:44pm):
I'm a 'coastie', myself (majoring in neuroscience, however - 10:24 pm is a sadly mistaken little boy), and I can say honestly that if this is the stereotype perpetuated about coasties, I would like to give a stern talking to whichever coastie's fault it is of perpetuating the stereotype. The fact that I'm a Chicago native notwithstanding, I lived on the East Coast for thirteen years, and my permanent address is there, even though I plan to make Madison my permanent home.
It's a comic, but either this is a subtly couched attack on said stereotype or a subtle attack on girls who act in this way.
connor gyles (April 27, 2007 @ 2:33pm):
You people are honestly complaining about a COMIC oh my God. Grow a pair (you too ladies) and get over it. Do realize that it is PAPER AND INK?
