Maybe I am not getting this comic … But is this just a very racist and sexist comic? It portrays a commonly caricatured image in the West of a South Asian man in a meditative pose. And the upside down answer to the question is “No one cares its a women’s sport”. Wait…I don’t get it, is this supposed to be funny in any way? I’m really trying to look at every angle here, I’m trying really hard. I just don’t get it. Can someone please clarify this cartoon for me? Thanks
I would think the “answer” is meant to be a satirical and sarcastic way of pointing out that despite their accomplishments, our women’s sports teams will not receive the recognition and admiration that they deserve. It comes off a little harsh, but it isn’t entirely ungrounded. As for the caricature, “racist” is a loaded word, but it clearly does play to stereotypes.
Isn’t it bad enough we have Better Left Unsaid? Why does the Badger Herald continue to publish this racist, sexist bullshit?
