The Badger Herald editorial page is a moderated community bulletin board where our only biases are for proper grammar and The Associated Press Stylebook. We’re political nerds who create bizarre nicknames for local politicians. We abhor knee-jerk liberalism and its consequences for an otherwise rational student community. But that doesn’t mean we won’t print knee-jerk liberalism or content with negative consequences for the student community. We detest mindless conservatism and its ceaseless attacks on the politics of progress. But that doesn’t mean we won’t print mindless conservatism or content detrimental to progressive politics.
Our responsibility is to facilitate conversation. This page is meant to be an outlet for the student community to debate the issues of the day in an easily accessible format. Through the writers we employ and the guest columns we publish, this page will try to create a lively marketplace of ideas where educated citizens can find the arguments with the most merit and dismiss the inconsequential and the ridiculous. The feedback portion of our website will also act as a forum for you, the readers, to express your thoughts on the published articles. We value your opinions, and although you may never appear in length on the pages, we do read your feedback and take it to heart.
Like we promised last semester, we are not afraid to be proven wrong. It is better to acknowledge our faults than to be blinded by erroneous arguments and policies that are sure to have detrimental consequences for all of us. We will not shy away from publishing controversial and thought-provoking articles, and we can promise we’ll offer you a medium for discourse. The rest is up to you.
