Interim Dean of Students Lori M. Berquam:
The response from the UW regarding crimes against the students of this campus has been at best, a cruel joke, and at worst, negligent. Please set a strong example, to violent criminals, to the faculty and students of this campus, members of the community, and other leaders at other UW campuses by demanding increased protection of women at night. Despite your rhetoric against blaming the victim, your actions speak louder than words. Your advice might be best complimented by making the right policy, rather than public relations, decisions. Victims of the worst crimes committed upon bodily integrety do not need to carry a cell phone, they need to live in a community where basic rights can be enforced. Clearly, safety is not a concern, as this email serves nothing but the UW's image. I do not expect nor want a written reply, I await your actions.

Thank you someone for responding to Berquam's mass email. Please only hope that this woman is replaced soon. Despite her being a finalist...I only see things going down hill if she stays.

How many of you are ready to give up some freedom for safety? The campus would be safer if the city/university placed camera all over the place, but are you ready to be got on tape picking your nose or walking home drunk and watering the shrub in the neighbors yard?
