To the Editor:
In her article Tuesday, Ms. Christenson perpetuated the “campaign of misinformation.” It seems that, even as chair of the College Republicans, Christenson does not understand the political process. Here’s a brief overview.
Each year, the Board of Regents determines tuition rates based on the expenses of the University and the financial support provided in the state budget. Both the Governor AND the State Legislature determine the budget. Changes in tuition are based on the budget determined by both government branches.
In reducing the state’s record deficit, Doyle worked with the Republican legislature to find a way to bring us closer to a balanced budget. While I strongly disagree with the decisions to cut funding for higher education, the governor AND legislature tried to compensate by increasing student aid for those who need it most.
Congressman Green voted three times to cut financial aid to students.
In proposing a cap to tuition, Mark Green’s plan is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. To follow through with this plan, he’d either have to raise taxes or reduce costs. Since Green has said he would not raise taxes, he would need to reduce the number of faculty and staff, thereby limiting student access to education.

What? Doyle worked with...with... Republicans?
Doesn't Doyle know that government works better when one party controls everything (ex. communists, nazis, republicans)? Doyle needs to find some catch phrase like "war on terror," so that he can start writing his own blank checks. Screw compromise.

I've never understood how Green can blame Doyle for UW tuition when it's state Republicans that have created the situation.

one word...exquisite.
Anonymous (October 12, 2006 @ 12:44pm):
State Republicans deserve more blame, but they and Doyle are both at fault. At least they've increased student aid...unlike Green.

To bad Green would transform the state of WI back to being fiscally responsible! Where then the Univeristy System would be allocated more state funds, instead of offsetting with tuition hikes. This and his tuition cap would keep the "Doyle 52% tuition inflation" under control in the future.
This chain of logic shouldn't be too hard for the numb brain libs to follow hey?
