President Bush’s Fiscal Year 2006 budget, released early this week, includes $13.7 billion for the Pell Grant program, which the White House says is a 45 percent increase.
The president indicated a desire to affect this change in his State of the Union message and we applaud him for keeping his word.
The Bush budget also calls for an increase of the maximum individual grant to $4,150. The Department of Education estimates 5.5 million low-income students will receive direct aid to pay for higher education.
The $2.7 trillion federal budget includes increases for defense and homeland security funding, the status quo in most federal agencies, and cuts to the Department of Education. Amid a tightening of standards for the No Child Left Behind Act, the president’s proposal indicates an understanding that the engines of future economic growth are fueled by funding quality higher education today.
We renew our plea to Congress, which can convolute any good idea, to keep the Pell Grant proposal intact.

Poor, stupid BH Ed Board. It's EFFECT CHANGE not AFFECT CHANGE, unless "change" is the name of some dude you're trying to affect. Look it the fuck up. And learn some goddamn grammar!

Don't be so hard on the E-board. Local idiot-about-town Ryan Corcoran had this to say on his website:
"The full website should be up shortly where it will include information such as my positions on important issues that <<effect>> the campus and Isthmus communities as well as facts on when and where to vote." (emphasis mine)
Hello? Is the whole world stupid? Even I am willing to explore school uniforms if it can help prevent idiots like this from coming out of our school system. Maybe we just need to crack down on breeding...

Sorry, that quote got pasted incorrectly. Corcoran's exact quote was "The full website should be up shortly where it will include information such as my positions on important issues that EFFECT the campus and Isthmus communities as well as facts on when and where to vote." (capitalization mine)
