In a city that prides itself on its liberal tradition of acceptance, my view is ostracized every day. I am unwilling to voice real opinions in class and on the street for fear of mockery and poor marks on my transcript. But this is my time to shine. As someone who is somewhere to the right of Pat Buchanan, now I can enjoy the benefits of four more years of the Bush presidency. So pat yourself on the back, Madison. Your intimidation and threats cannot bring me down from this high. The party of Reagan is back and ready to rule.

As for the supposed high voter turnout among college-aged students, I suppose it is time to send you packing to the way of apathetic voter once again. People think that because they watch five weeks of campaign coverage every four years they know politics. After being a student of politics and having a genuine love for it, I assure you that I will continue to be just as enlightened after the election as I was before it. I do not presume to be an expert on the NBA after watching three weeks of SportsCenter, just as I do not know medicine after reading some medical journals. Why do so many think they understand the inner workings of politics in the same way?

To all my fellow conservatives in the city that I love (and there are more than most people think, because we aren’t angry and rude like our counterparts), be sure to remind all the liberals out there about our new mandate every day. And when our professors start to spout extreme leftist ideals, just sit back and smile knowing that our Senate, House and presidency are expediting our agendas, not theirs.

You shouldn't be penalized on transcripts for your views, and you should be free to express your opinions just as vocally as the radical liberals of Madison, but if you're to the right of Pat Buchanan, he of the Nazi sympathies, you ought to be ostracized. Furthermore, your beloved "party of Reagan" is dead. Reagan believed in responsible government. When he realized that tax cuts were destroying the long-term security of our economy, he reversed course and raised taxes. He cut fat from government; under Bush, government spending has increased at a greater rate than in any administration since FDR. The benefits of Bush's policies go into the pockets of corporate interests. Even when some of the benefits of the federal tax cuts trickle down to the lowly middle class, they still lose out because their state and municipal taxes are forced by the relatively small federal tax cut and the resulting cuts in funding to rise far more than the federal taxes were cut.

I'm a Republican who was proud to vote for John Kerry. And if another Bush-like Republican gets the nomination in 2008, I'd even vote for Hillary Clinton rather than get another four years of irresponsible government that sullies the good name of Republicans everywhere.

"Why do so many think they understand the inner workings of politics in the same way?"

Wow, I didn't realize the insight you gained from being a poly sci major here at the UW. Perhaps you could use your great insight and knowledge to solve problems instead of endlessly pursuing money and power. Isn't that what politics should be about?

Secondly I would like to apoligize if you feel threatened by this response. Have no fear simply because I disagree with you I will not make any marks on your transcript or rape you in an alley.

I hope when George W. calls for the reinstatment of the draft you will have to go and will not be eligible for deferrment.

I can't get over the fact that you crazy libs still think that W is going to impose the draft. The bill currently sitting in the house regarding the draft was drafted by YOUR democraps. It is truly a great day to be a republican in Madison! I am really hoping that waiting list for all the Libs that want to move to Canada starts moving faster. Get em outta here!

Only Democrats propose reinstatment of the draft.

Fight the Draft - Elect Republicans!

Republicans = gun toting rednecks

The democrat who proposed the draft, was an african-american who did so to make people address the back-door draft that already exists for poor minorities. Get a clue conservatives and get your facts straight. That way you can stop pedaling only part of the story. Thats how you beat kerry.

And the excuses and whining begin...As an American, I would be proud to serve my country. I see nothing wrong with being told to put in my time, to show my country I will work for it, instead of it just working for me!

Democrats = whining pussies

Republicans = whining bullies

I don't own a gun, don't believe I'm a redneck, believe in tolerance and education, and I'm a Republican...contradiction in terms??? not exactly. just means that I do have brain somewhere in that coconut of mine, and happen to disagree with liberal ideas...which, not surprisingly, a majority of Americans happen to do as well.

Democrats will continue to lose elections if they continue to discount conservatives as uneducated hicks who couldn't tell their elbows from their a$$holes. Democrats used to be the party of the common person; they've transformed into the party of supereducated/overeducated elitist snobs that put down the common person (the use of the term "fly over states" is a great example of this) and ignore their vote. You need to fire Terry McAuliffe and get in touch with reality very quickly, or your party will fracture and die.

"But the same insularity that caused many liberals to lose touch with the rest of the country now causes them to simplify, misunderstand and condescend to the people who voted for Bush. If you want to understand why Democrats keep losing elections, just listen to some coastal and university town liberals talk about how conformist and intolerant people in Red America are. It makes you wonder: why is it that people who are completely closed-minded talk endlessly about how open-minded they are?"

Tolerance?

As Americans were voting on marriage and marijuana and other matters, the Rotterdam police were destroying a mural by Chris Ripke that he'd created to express his disgust at the murder of Theo van Gogh by Islamist crazies. Ripke's painting showed an angel and the words "Thou Shalt Not Kill". Unfortunately, his workshop is next to a mosque, and the imam complained that the mural was "racist", so the cops arrived, destroyed it, arrested the television journalists filming it and wiped their tape.
