United Council is Wisconsin’s nonpartisan, nonprofit statewide student association. Since 1960, United Council has been a student-run and -directed organization, working with campuses around the state to run grassroots campaigns and lobby to protect students and the quality of their UW education.
When it comes to higher education, legislators are concerned about students and parents — not administrators. To that end, United Council is a powerful voice for students at the State Capitol. Today, Wisconsin is facing the worst budget deficit since the Great Depression. UW System receives 9 percent of state funding but is taking 38 percent of the budget cuts. This means you will be paying 18 percent more in tuition for 200 fewer classes with 150 fewer professors and advisors.
Bottom line: Now more than ever we need a powerful statewide student voice that wins victories to improve students’ lives, so you should vote “yes” for United Council in the ASM elections.

United Council has won a number of legislative victories in the past two years by running statewide campaigns and building strong relationships with the Republican and Democratic leaderships. Last year, we ran a statewide campaign, working with Democratic leaders in the Legislature and Republican Gov. Scott McCallum to sign a pro-student budget into law. Our victories include:
