Biskupic: the choice for Attorney General
By Suzie Strzelec, Staff Writer
Next Tuesday is an important day for the state of Wisconsin. Not only do we choose our next Governor, our Senators and our Representatives, we are also choosing another important position: Attorney General. The choice for Attorney General is clear; Vince Biskupic is the guy for us! So the question crossing your mind is who is this guy, and why should I vote for him? Let me tell you why this guy is an awesome choice for our next Attorney General.
Vince Biskupic (pronounced Bis-Cue-Pick) is the only candidate for Attorney General who has actually focused his career on prosecution. His opponent, Peggy Lautenschlager, has run for almost every state office except Governor, and she is running for Attorney General to advance her political career further and push her political agenda. Her jobs in law enforcement have been political appointments — payback for failed attempts to run for office.
Vince has been the District Attorney, the only position he has ever run for, for Outagamie County for the past eight years. He wants to get the politics out of the Attorney General’s office and refocus on basic law enforcement. He has been a prosecutor for the past 13 years and has prosecuted over 10,000 cases. His plans for the Attorney General position are numerous and strong in their ideas.
As a woman, I feel especially good about his plans for enhanced sex-offender monitoring. Vince supports legislation that would make it a felony for sex offenders to not register with the police department in the city they live in. This is especially important in an Attorney General candidate, because it shows that he understands the importance of combating sexual assault in our communities. Knowing that he has prosecuted hundreds of sex offenders shows that he is dedicated to the idea of making Wisconsin a safer place for people, especially women and children.
Another thing that makes Vince Biskupic a great candidate for Attorney General is his white-collar-crime task force. Too often in the news now we are hearing about corporate corruption and fraud that cost investors and employees millions of dollars and screw people out of their jobs and pensions. Vince plans to create a white-collar-criminal task force to make sure things like that don’t happen here in Wisconsin. His record of prosecuting white-collar crime has shown that he is tough on crime, not soft on corporate corruption. In 1998, Vince prosecuted one of the biggest securities-fraud cases in Wisconsin against Gene Retzlaff of Sunrise Investments. Retlaff’s sentence was the longest ever handed down in Wisconsin for security-fraud violations.
The qualities that Vince Biskupic has shown while being District Attorney for Outagamie County shows that he truly cares about the people of Wisconsin. He fights for our rights and safety every day. On Election Day when you’re at the polls, remember that the safety of Wisconsin is at stake, and the best way to ensure a safer Wisconsin is by making Vince Biskupic our next Attorney General.
