Today ASM will unveil the “Worst House in Madison.” As we editorialized a month ago, we think the “Worst House” contest is a great way to draw attention to the issue of tenants’ rights. But it would be a waste to not take advantage of all the hoopla surrounding the contest.
To that end, we encourage ASM’s Tenants’ Rights Campaign to continue pursuing the other goals we lauded last month, especially a landlord database, as well as adding tenants’ rights questions to UW’s annual student satisfaction survey.
ASM should also critically examine the student funds given to the Tenant Resource Center; we feel they could be spent much more effectively by ASM’s own campaign. The “Worst House” contest is fun; now is the time to make it matter.
