If what some ads during the Super Bowl say is true, then there is one more reason to legalize drugs, not a reason to stop buying them. Our government has long been fallaciously equating the violence caused by selling anything on a black market with the effects of taking drugs.
Whenever someone is killed or injured in a bad drug deal it is called “drug violence,” but it was not the effects of taking drugs that caused the violence. It was the illegal money. Such cases would more accurately be called “money violence.” So, an unbiased analysis reveals that violence and terrorism are not supported by drug users, but by the War on Drugs.

I am actually curious how many different letters we here at Students 4 Ed Thompson must write to actually get published in this, the “best” campus newspaper. I fortunately do read other newspapers in the Madison area, so I am not completely discouraged by the Badger Herald’s obviously one-sided presentation. I would like to point out to you, the editors and readers, recent articles published in other Madison newspapers. Just yesterday (2/4/02) from the Capital Times:
“That’s why, when Thompson finished taping ‘For the Record,’ he was instantly surrounded by a crowd of technicians, camera operators, ad sales reps and just about everyone else who knew he was in the building. They wanted to shake the hand of the one candidate for governor who sounded like he might be serious about making some changes in the Capitol.”
An article written by former Democrat for Governor Ed Garvey (1/22/02) stated:
“Which candidate will stand and be counted today? Where is the anger over corruption, the disparity of income, tax breaks for the wealthy, jobless constituents? Where is the vision? If Democrats don’t figure out how to answer those questions, there could be another Gov. Thompson. This one named Ed.”
Obviously, I could go on with Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire or La Crosse editorials, but the Badger Herald only wants one view of Ed presented, so this probably will not be published anyway.
