Two robberies occurred within 45 minutes of each other downtown early Sunday morning, but police say more information is needed to determine whether they are connected.

The first incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., according to a police report.

The victim, a 32-year-old Madison man, was walking near the intersection of North Pinckney Street and East Gorham Street when two men demanded his laptop and bag, the report said. One of the suspects punched the victim in the face, cutting his lip and causing him to need stitches, the report said.

The victim was able to keep his computer, and the suspects fled the scene, the report said.

The second incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. in the 100 block of West Mifflin Street, according to a police report.

Two victims, a 32-year-old Madison man and a 31-year-old Madison woman, were approached by three suspects, the report said.

According to the report, one victim was pushed to the ground and the other was hit in the face. The suspects stole the male victim’s cell phone and money before fleeing the scene, the report said.

In an email, Madison Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain said it is possible the two incidents are related, but more information is needed to prove the connection.
