Madison Police Department
Although local police have yet to identify any suspects, a series of armed robberies over the past two weeks in Madison have something in common: all occurred at local restaurants.
Police have not said if there is any link between the incidents, although some of the robberies have similar characteristics in the police reports.
Burrito Drive: In the most recent incident, which occurred Sunday night, two male suspects entered Burrito Drive on South Brearly Street and sprayed employees with some type of chemical, according to a Madison Police incident report. The report said the chemical may have been pepper spray.
The men brandished handguns and then fled out the back door after stealing money from the register. The victims, who complained of burning eyes and mouths, were treated at the scene of the crime.
Wingstop: Wingstop on Regent Street was robbed Friday night by a male suspect with a silver handgun. The suspect ordered employees to get on the ground and demanded money from the cash register.
Workers complied with the suspect’s demands, and he then fled in what police believe may have been a Chevy Malibu.
Pizza Extreme: In an April 29 robbery, a kitchen employee was closing up shop at Pizza Extreme on Monroe Street when he found a man pointing a handgun at him.
The suspect forced the employee to the front of the restaurant, where he ordered the worker to give him an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said in a report the suspect description matched that of Friday night’s robbery at Wingstop.
Rocky Rococo: Two armed men wearing black ski masks robbed Rocky Rococo on Regent Street April 12. One suspect approached the employee with a handgun and demanded money while the other acted as a lookout. The men then fled with the money from the register.
