Restaurants open and water back on at Memorial Union after pipe froze

The water is back on at the Memorial Union after being completely shut off at 2 p.m. for repairs to a frozen water main pipe.

Union spokesperson Marc Kennedy said in an email all restaurants are open again. Restaurants were shut down at 1:30 p.m., including Der Rathskeller, Der Stiftskeller, Lankfront on Langdon and Peet’s Coffee and Tea.

The Essentials Store and The Daily Scoop stayed open throughout the afternoon, offering “grab and go” items such as bottled beverages and snacks, Kennedy said.

During the hours where the water remained off, patrons were offered restrooms in the Red Gym, according to a statement.
