A committee of the University of Wisconsin’s student government will continue rounds of budget decisions and hearings at its meeting this evening, in addition to reconsidering a previous budget.
The Student Services Finance Committee will hold a budget hearing for the Associated Students of Madison internal budget as well as reconsider the budget for Atheists, Humanists and Agnostics, which was granted approximately $67,000 last week.
AHA proposed two motions to the committee for reconsideration, according to AHA Executive Director Chris Calvey.
Calvey said AHA is first asking the committee to reinstate the executive director position, which it cut from the budget during the budget hearing. The position would be for 12 hours per week for 37 weeks and three hours for 13 weeks during the summer, he said.
“The executive director position is critical to the functioning of AHA,” Calvey said.
In addition, the committee will also reconsider the motion to add $3,000 to the equipment line of AHA’s budget for a video camera, Calvey said.
Calvey added this motion is justified as the camera is essential to the direct services AHA provides.
“A video camera will facilitate the delivery of our services by allowing students to benefit from our programming year-round via our YouTube channel,” he said.
The internal budget, which passed the Associated Students of Madison’s Student Council last week, will come before the committee for a vote.
Also on the agenda is a budget decision for Adventure Leadership Programs, a student organization that leads team-building workshops all over the UW campus throughout the year.
