LANGDON STREET

A financial dispute about the popular “Teach Me How to Bucky” video resulted in a fight early Friday morning, a Madison Police report said.

Andrew Schecher, a 21-year-old Madison man, allegedly helped one of the victims, a 22-year-old Madison man, with filming the video, and was unhappy with his compensation.

Schecher and his twin brother Steven, a University of Wisconsin student, went to settle the issue and a fight occurred, the report added.

The second victim, a 19-year-old Madison man, went to the hospital with a broken nose and orbital bone and a cut that required stitches, the report said.

SCHROEDER ROAD

Battery

A verbal argument about poor driving turned physical last Sunday night after a driver nearly hit another vehicle in a parking lot, an MPD report said.

According to the report, the victim, a 52-year-old Madison man, and his 15-year-old son had just driven into their apartment’s parking lot when a van sped toward them. The van narrowly avoided a collision and both drivers got out and exchanged words.

The victim tried talking, but the suspect, Lee Smith, 39, of Madison, threatened and attacked him, the report said.

The victim’s son helped his father hold Smith off until police arrived and arrested him.

MANITOU WAY

Burglary

A spare key was used to break into the home of a 51-year-old Madison woman early last Sunday morning, an MPD report said.

The two burglars, Madison teens aged 13 and 14, stole cash from the residence, the report said.

The victim heard the suspects enter and called police, who used police dog “Slim” to track down one suspect. The other was arrested after a later investigation, the report added.

“Making sure windows and doors are secure is the best way to keep people out,” MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said.

LONDONDERRY DRIVE

Fraud

A phone scam cost a 78-year-old Madison woman close to $5,000 last week, according to an MPD report.

The woman received a call from Florida falsely claiming her grandson was in jail, the report said.

A younger man came on the line and she asked if he was her grandson Kevin. He said he was Kevin and convinced her to wire money for bail, attorney fees and service charges.

After not hearing news for a few days, the victim called her grandson and found she had been scammed.

“People should be very skeptical and get a hold of family members, particularly the person whose name has come up at the other end of the phone [during suspicious phone calls],” DeSpain said.

WILLIAMSON STREET

Burglary

A suspect led police on a citywide chase Thursday after MPD determined a Madison woman is the lead suspect in a burglary, according to an MPD report.

The report said Rebecca Reedy, 35, broke into a 24-year-old victim’s home and took a laptop and phone earlier Thursday evening.

The victim and a neighbor followed Reedy and recovered the laptop. Police returned the phone upon Reedy’s arrest.

The suspect was earlier witnessed urinating near a bus stop a few blocks away, the report said. Reedy said she “had to go” when she was near the bus stop.
