A man was found dead this morning in James Madison Park, according to a Madison Police Department report released today.

MPD has not yet identified the man, only saying he appears to be in his late 20s and was found floating in Lake Mendota around 5:30 a.m. by another citizen.

Dane County Coroner John Stanley’s office will perform an autopsy on the man today to try to determine the actual cause of death.

The report said it is too early to know if foul play may have been involved.

MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said the man will be identified by the coroner and his name will be released after his next of kin has been informed.

“He did have some kind of identification in a pocket, we’re not for sure yet that that’s him, so we have a tentative ID,” DeSpain said.

I haven’t seen a man die like that since Abraham Lincoln!
