(AP) - The Wisconsin Legislature is expected to pass a statewide smoking ban on Wednesday.

The proposal would take effect July 5, 2010, and apply to all restaurants, bars and work places. The state Tavern League agreed last week to support the ban in a deal that delayed its implementation until next year.

Gov. Jim Doyle has unsuccessfully pushed for the ban for years. He wanted it to start immediately but is expected to sign the compromise into law.

Under the ban, virtually all work places would have to be smoke free. That includes hotel rooms.

Restaurant and bar owners could still set up smoking areas outside.

Wisconsin would become the 26th state to enact a comprehensive ban.

Great!!!! This will effectively ban Our Dear Leader and Smoker In Chief Barrack Obama from ever visiting the Socialist State of Wisconsin again! Ahhhhhh, the Law of Unintended Consequences strikes once more.

Perhaps we should give Barry H.O. a “pass” on this law? Ya think? I mean, we’ve given him a pass on sooooooo many other things! Like a providing a valid US birth certificate, the most fundamental requirement for the office of the US president. Like his claims of “openess and honesty” while continuing to pay legal staff hundreds of thousands of dollars to prevent the release of his acedemic transcripts from 3 universities. Like his claims of being a “constitutional law professor” when he was merely a lecturer at Illinois. Etc. Ad Nauseum.

Yeah, I’m sure we can do a little Liberal Law bending for Our Dear Marxist Leader! We’ve had lots of practice, just getting the Teleprompter Tyro this far!

Hope! Change!

Good. It’s about time. I care about my health and hate having to pinch my nose when I walk in to a cloud of secondhand smoke. And then having to smell it on my clothes when I get home. I’m all for smokers’ rights too, but they must realize that smoking has a negative impact on people around them. Some people literally have to leave the room because they react adversely. And then there’s the issue of throwing butts out onto the street or sidewalk. That’s disgusting.
