The often controversial former University of Wisconsin lecturer Kevin Barrett was defeated Tuesday in his run for Congress but stills claims victory in the election.

Barrett, the candidate of the Libertarian party, lost to the incumbent Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kind garnered 62 percent of the vote while Barrett received only 2 percent and Republican candidate Paul Stark picked up 35 percent.

However, despite losing, Barrett proclaimed victory for receiving the most votes per dollar spent on the campaign.

In addition, Barrett said he feels he ran a successful campaign despite the many obstacles he faced, including his arrest for violating a Sauk County court order forbidding contact with his family.

Barrett said he commends both his opponents for having the “guts” to debate him while listening to some “very hard criticism and truth.”

“I think overall, I respect [Kind] for debating his opponents but also debating a third party opponent,” Barrett said. “I really kind of drilled him hard. I basically called him complacent in war crimes.”

Kind’s campaign manager Matt Ullsvik said in the end, this race was about the issues affecting the people in western Wisconsin.

“Kind will work for real change and help middle-class families,” Ullsvik said. “We can all work together across the aisle and put aside our differences for a better future.”

Barrett said he hopes with the change in atmosphere in this country, people like Kind will be able to take a courageous position distancing themselves from the war crimes that have been at the core of United States politics for the last several years.

With the election behind him, Barrett said his focus will shift to writing books and applying for academic jobs — including a position in the African language and literature department at the University of Wisconsin.

Barrett said he admits his appointment will be quite difficult especially after his controversial stint as a lecturer at UW came to the forefront in fall semester 2006, when he allegedly taught Sept. 11 conspiracy theories in the classroom.

“My chances of being hired will be very slight, not just because of the politics, but also because the incest taboo in academia,” Barrett said. “I got my Ph.D. from the African department here and chair of the department is my dissertation advisor.”

Barrett said he still thinks his chances of getting jobs in academia might be better abroad than in the U.S., yet is optimistic the 9/11 Truth Campaign might actually do well under an Obama administration.

As to his future in politics, Barrett said he would consider running again but would be hesitant to run under the current platform of the Libertarian party. He added prominent third-party individuals like Jesse Ventura, Ed Thompson, Ron Paul and himself are considering forming a new moderate Libertarian party that better represents their political ideologies.

This just in! Barrett’s concession press release:

Kevin Barrett Congratulates Ron Kind, Paul Stark

3rd District Libertarian candidate Kevin Barrett congratulated Democratic victor Ron Kind and Republican challenger Paul Stark, and announced that he would “take a break from politics to focus on family and spirituality.”

“I think Ron Kind is a decent guy who wants to do the right thing,” Barrett said. “Like most Americans, he has so far failed to stand up to the criminals behind the 9/11 wars and the trashing of our Constitution. But he did have the courage to show up for a debate in which he knew I was going to rake him over the coals. He would have won just as big if he’d ducked that debate. It took guts to show up and take what he knew was coming. I hope he’ll show even more guts by considering some of the points I made, and then standing up more for what’s right, and less for what’s expedient.”

Barrett called on Kind to support fellow Democratic Representative Dennis Kucinich’s call for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for 9/11 and the 9/11 wars. He also urged Kind to support Richard Cook’s proposals for currency reform, including phasing out the Federal Reserve and treating currency as a public utility, not the world-conquest weapon of a private monopoly of international bankers.

Barrett also said: “I would like to thank Paul Stark for his gutsy and provocative campaign. The real reason I ran was to raise important issues and ideas, and Paul Stark also did that by banging the drums for the elimination of the income tax and its replacement by the Fair Tax. I think the Fair Tax proposal deserves a fair hearing, and I congratulate Paul Stark for successfully drawing attention to this important proposal.”

Barrett said his campaign had been a success. “Those who followed it from all over the world know that this was one of the most exciting political campaigns ever, with more truth, humor, and creativity than a thousand ordinary campaigns put together. Unfortunately it wasn’t a good year for third parties. Given that, I did pretty well. I understand that I got about double the votes of the other major Wisconsin Libertarian congressional candidate, Joe Kexel; seven times the votes of Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr; and about the same as Mike Munger, the biggest non-presidential Libertarian candidate in the country, who ran for Governor of North Carolina. Additionally, I got more total votes than Jeff Zastrow, who ran in my district in 2002 on the coattails of Ed Thompson, the all-time record-breaking Libertarian vote-getter. So it looks like mine was the most successful Libertarian campaign in the country.”

Kevin Barrett and his 9-11 truthers have stood on America’s street corners for years yelling that George W. Bush “never” won an Election he just appointed himself Leader. When Barrett was asked; when did the 9-11 truth movement hold its Free and Democratic Election to elect him as a 9-11 truth movement Leader he “Refused” to answer; when the 9-11 truth movement put out its call for Candidates, when the Candiate Debates were held, how were the Ballots handled, when was the Election held and what were the results? I guess that means that Kevin Barrett did just like he condemns George W. Bush of doing and just appointed himself a 9-11 truth movement Leader. Doesn’t that make him a “Hypocrite”? Kevin Barrett has also “Refused” to answer; where is the physical evidence that supports your “Dynamic Duo” buddy Jim Fetzer’s claim that “Space Beams” brought down the Twin Towers. Kevin Barrett has also “Refused” to answer questions about his 9-11 truth movement mentor David Ray Griffin: David Ray Griffin has publicly stated that; he didnot care when the 9-11-01 Attacks happened, so why does “not” caring when the 9-11-01 Attacks happened qualify David Ray Griffin as a 9-11 truth movement Leader, Kevin Barrett? Everyone learned in High School that Thomas Jefferson didnot give the American People the Constitutional Right to the Truth Kevin Barrett, so why do people have to pay David Ray Griffin $20 for a book to tell them the US Government didnot tell the truth in its 9-11 Commission Report? Kevin Barrett has “Refused” to answer why at the 2006 Boston 9-11 truth Tea Party he delibertly denied people who werenot Cynthia McKinney supporters a chance to speak when he was made moderator (the person who choose who got to speak) of one of its discussion groups? For Kevin Barrett to make comments about other people not answering his questions while at the same time “Refusing” to answer questions people have about him and what he and his 9-11 truth movement is doing, once again makes him a “Hypocrite”! Kevin Barrett, when are you going to answer the questions that the General Public has about you and your 9-11 truth movement and what you are doing, or don’t you think you need to answer questions about what you are doing and instead just keep pumping the General Public for more and more Money on your promise of a Federal Criminal case against the Bush administration that in 2006 was thrown back in your face when you and the 9-11 truth movement tried to convene a Grand Jury but your Physical Evidence wasnot credible enough to convene a Grand Jury for?

Libertarians Again Top 1,000,000 Votes for U.S. House

November 5th, 2008

The Libertarian Party candidates for U.S. House will have polled over 1,000,000 votes, as soon as all the votes are counted. Preliminary figures are at 990,000, and perhaps 8% of all the votes (mostly absentees and provisionals) have not yet been counted.

The Libertarian Party also exceeded 1,000,000 for U.S. House in 2000, 2002, and 2004. It is the only minor party that has polled as many as 1,000,000 votes for U.S. House since 1914, when the Progressive Party polled 1,117,939 votes. Thanks to Greg Kaza for the 2008 calculation.

Cynthia McKinney only got 0.1%. Barrett did 20 times better than that.
