Madison Police were dispatched to a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of North Frances Street and University Avenue Sunday morning.

Fitchburg resident Oscar Naxi, 22, was driving while intoxicated southbound on University Avenue at bar time and did not stop at the red light at North Frances Street where a large group of pedestrians were crossing the street.

Naxi hit a 21-year-old male on the crosswalk at about 25 mph, according to a police report. The victim flipped over Naxi’s car, breaking several teeth.

According to City Council President Mike Verveer, District 4, a witness with a wrestler’s build from Pulaski, tried to get Naxi to stop.

“Like a typical wrestler would, he grabbed the spoiler and hung onto it while the driver took off,” Verveer said.

Naxi drove his ’98 Oldsmobile Intrigue two blocks with the man hanging onto the back bumper when a University of Wisconsin police officer pulled him over, police said.

Police arrested Naxi, and he is tentatively charged with failure to render aid to the injured, red signal violation, driving while intoxicated and causing injury while driving intoxicated.

Typical wrestlers...

How does this not happen every weekend, between all the drunks and the kids that can't figure out how to properly cross the street?

I went to high school with Oscar, and I can't believe he'd do something so stupid. I have no respect for drunk drivers, I know someone who had her whole life changed because she was hit by a drunk driver in a similar incident.

So who should we believe, all the witnesses or the person who thinks going to high school with the drunk driver means he couldn't possibly have nearly killed someone?
