A lead writer of the 9/11 Commission Report spoke Tuesday of the “challenge” of writing the thousand-page report.

In a lecture sponsored by the UW Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy, Warren Bass, the deputy editor of The Washington Post's Sunday opinion section, described why the 9/11 Commission Report was unusual to write.

He added the 9/11 Commission Report was unlike most commissions because of the depth of the event, the sheer suddenness and the amount of information to process.

Jo Ann Oravec, a UW-Whitewater business professor, said although she did not read the report cover-to-cover, she read most of it and found there were a lot of "holes."

"I would like to see more research on what happened on 9/11, especially what happened with the possible demolition of the World Trade Center's Building seven," Oravec said. "I would want to see an actual picture of the plane hitting the Pentagon; we don't have footage that is available. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I do think there are many unanswered questions."

Bass said conspiracy theorists are never going to be satisfied.

"There are these insane 9/11 conspiracy theories that Dick Cheney was behind the attacks. People who believe in these theories have a weak grasp of how hurtful it is for the families of those killed in the attacks," Bass said. "This is the last thing people working through loss want to hear."

Oravec said it is silly for families to not want these questions to be answered, adding some families are still asking for more research.

Bass said if it weren't for the families of those killed in the terrorist attacks, there would not have been a commission.

"Even though the families got on our nerves begging us to write the report, they are great American heroes who showed extraordinary courage and valor," he said.

Bass added it was a priority to create a report in "good clean English," accessible to every voting American.

In a question-and-answer session, a member of the audience asked why terrorists hate America.

"Bin Laden's ideology is in some way seductive," Bass said. "He is highly imaginative."

Bass attributed bin Laden's imagination to the high production value of his televised clips aired in the U.S. after Sept. 11, and bin Laden's "ingenious" use of the Internet.

"Even though that horrible Tuesday came out of nowhere for the public, it didn't come out of nowhere for al-Qaida," Bass said. "It is too simple to argue Osama bin Laden's hatred is blind. There was a political agenda behind it."

When asked if getting rid of bin Laden would make a martyr out of him, Bass said it is too late, adding bin Laden's influence is already out there.

"If we get rid of bin Laden terrorism will not go away," he said.

how does this article about a campus event turn into point-counterpoint regarding 9/11 conspirators by the 4th sentence? the author really takes this event on a tangent and completely misses the boat with the article as a whole. very poorly done.

Jo Ann Oravec, please read this article on WTC 7.

It might help you understand the issues involved with the collapse of that building.

JoAnn Oravec, you don’t have the right not to do your homework and then question what is out there!! Read the report, the WHOLE thing and then question. Do you allow your students to do half the work and then come up with inane theories? I hope not.
Am scared that I have nieces who attend this school and taking business courses. They aren’t going to learn much from the likes of Oravec!

I agree with Prof. Oravec 100%. A real investigation is needed. See the work of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth at ae911truth.org

This is too important not to judge for yourself based on a careful consideration of both sides of the debate.

What I’s like to know is what was in the margin notes on the top-secret documents that Sandy Berger stuffed into his underwear, stole from the Natiuonal Archives and then destroyed.

He’s Hillary’s advisor now - maybe she can ask?

“Read the report, the WHOLE thing and then question.”

Evidently you don’t follow your own advice. No where in the Omission Commission Report do they mention WTC 7. The same laughable Omission Commission also omits the massive 47 inner columns of WTC 1 & 2 by stating they were “hollow steel shafts”.

9/11 was an Inside Job, the question is how to proceed from here without upsetting the entire structure of our Government. Hopefully we can provide for a smooth transition to more successful leaders and bring swift justice to all those that participated in the false flag terrorist operation or helped cover it up. The media in this country needs to be overhauled as well. Hopefully we can fire all these assholes, and write new legislation preventing major corporations from censoring our news like they do. It’s going to take a huge amount of time, love, and energy to clean this government out of people with allegiances to foreign government and international organizations. John F. Kennedy warned us about these secret societies. Eisenhower warned us of this Military Industrial Complex. That should provide the basis for any investigative work into the justice of this corrupt government. The constitution has to be followed. It provides for this type of situation. It’s called Treason and we know what to do with those that commit it. A Coup d’ Etat has occurred and we need to all gather round and fix this mess before it gets any worse. Thanks. And Please do your part, whatever that can be.

11:02, stop drinking the kool aid please.

Professor Jo Ann Oravec’s questions regarding 9/11 are precisely indicative of what Kevin Barrett, the 9/11 families, and so many others have been asking of 9/11 all along. Despite what many who have refused to research the many discrepancies of 9/11 might say, those who question the official story of 9/11 are not doing so out of an irrational hatred for Bush and Cheney. Rather, they are doing so out of the countless measurable, demonstrable, and factual anomalies surrounding the official story.

Oravec’s points that the 9/11 commission report does not mention a single word about a 47-story building that just magically collapsed at 5:20pm after Larry Silverstein, the owner, ‘made the decision to pull it,’ or that, to this day, we still have not seen one single picture of any plane hitting the Pentagon (one of the most protected and heavily-surveilled buildings in history) are but two of the most obvious questions.

Beyond that, maybe we can determine why BBC, the LA Times, and the Chicago Tribune all reported that at least nine of the nineteen alleged hijackers are alive in Saudi Arabia, despite their pictures and biographies perfectly matching that of the alleged perpetrators. Or maybe we can ascertain how four of the black boxes disappeared (or didn’t, depending on if you’re talking to Rumsfeld or FBI Director Mueller), yet a passport somehow appeared intact in the rubble, despite being at the very center of the explosion. Why do the time and date stamps not match up in the videos of the hijackers? Why are their names not on the original passenger manifests? Why did the mayor of Cleveland, United Airlines, and a local FOX news affiliate all report that Flight 93 landed at in Cleveland? These and hundreds of other omissions are what drive people like Oravec to question the accuracy of the 9/11 commission’s report.

Furthermore, Bass asserts the laughable lie that “People who believe in these theories have a weak grasp of how hurtful it is for the families of those killed in the attacks,” Bass said. “This is the last thing people working through loss want to hear.” What Bass doesn’t want you to know is that these very families are the original ‘9/11 Truthers’ due to their getting stonewalled at even the most innocent and obvious of questions. The Jersey Girls in particular, three 9/11 widows, started their campaign to get their questions answered after getting so fed up with being lied to, that, as Bass points out, the commission may never have even been formed if they hadn’t persisted. What does that tell you about how much the government wants us to know what really happened here? Google and watch ‘9’11: Press for Truth’ to find out their amazing story.

Unfortunately, we clearly won’t get any answers from Warren Bass. He is no patriot. For those, see www.patriotsquestion9/11.com. Like so many others, he is simply a shill meant to divide and distract us from seeking the truth about this devastating event.
