This Big Ten university will be home of the Jeopardy College Championship 2008.
What is University of Wisconsin?
Coming April 2008, UW students will have a chance to gather on campus to watch and participate in the taping of Jeopardy’s 2008 Championship.
“It’s going to be at the Kohl Center, we’re going to have 15 students from the nation’s top colleges, and include someone from your campus,” said “Jeopardy” publicity coordinator Susie Eun.
While at UW April 11-12, the “Jeopardy” production crew will be taping 10 episodes which will be aired on NBC 15 at 4:30 p.m. May 5 and 16.
“We’re pleased to be selected as the host site for Jeopardy’s 2008 College Championship,” Chancellor John Wiley wrote in a statement Thursday. “We look forward to welcoming college students from around the country to our campus and our community.”
Each of the 15 players will appear in one of five episodes during the first week.
The big prize is $100,000, followed by a guaranteed minimum of $50,000 for the second place contestant and a minimum $25,000 for third place. Semifinalists receive $10,000, and contestants eliminated in the first week receive $5,000.
UW will be the ninth college campus to host the competition — universities including USC, Yale, Ohio State and University of Washington have already hosted the program.
“With a vibrant student population, Madison is a great college-oriented community and an ideal choice to host the 2008 Jeopardy College Championship,” Jeopardy Executive Producer Harry Friedman said in a statement. “We know the residents of Madison as well as the students at the University of Wisconsin will make this a truly memorable event.”
UW sophomore Dan Mich said he is a big fan of the show, and added he would definitely be buying tickets in advance to ensure his seat next April.
Though further information on selection process for UW students will be released in the upcoming months, Mich has already decided to not apply.
“That’s, like, ‘smart’ stuff,” Mich said.
A list of participating schools will be unveiled in January 2008.

THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER!
“buying tickets”? Aren’t TV tapings required to have free admission? Looking at last year’s college championships, the event was indeed free:

Channel 15 announced in Novemeber that they would be posting, in January, how to obtain tickets for the taping. Any idea when they will be doing so?
