A fire Friday night has left West Gilman Street's Yummy Buffet with an estimated $25,000 in damages, according to the Madison Fire Department.
The department received an emergency call about the fire at approximately 5:20 p.m. The caller said flames could be seen coming through the roof, and smoke could be seen through the windows, according to a release from the MFD.
One employee was rescued from the restaurant and was taken to the University of Wisconsin Hospital for treatment.
According to Tony Chen, owner of Yummy Buffet, Health Department officials are coming Monday to inspect the restaurant and any possible damage, and the restaurant is expected to open again early this week.
"We will open Monday or Tuesday," Chen said.
The fire was reported by employees from Jeff and Jim's Pizza on State Street, who noticed smoke coming from the building.
"We looked outside the office window, and their roof was on fire, and we called the police," said Ian Foster, who was working at Jeff and Jim's when the fire occurred. "I believe that they knew about it when it was happening because their kitchen filled up with smoke."
According to the fire department, crews were able to extinguish the fire within several minutes, but there was "heavy fire and smoke damage to the kitchen area."
No serious injuries have been reported as a result of the fire. This incident is still under investigation, according to the MFD.
